i know getting a W in a class doesn't matter.

but what if i get a W in the same class again? (its a pre-req class but i dont think that matters) they wont care right?

They technically shouldnt care but in all honesty, when applying to a prestigious school in an impacted major, they will take ALL FACTORS into consideration. This includes getting Ws (especially in prereqs), taking unchallenging courses, take over 2 years to transfer, etc. In conclusion: It won’t hurt you but when you are compared with other applicants who don’t have Ws, it won’t be unnoticed.

I got 2 W’s in ENGLISH (101 AKA first writing/composition class oh the shame) and got an A the third time. Granted the two W’s occurred a while back but they still show up on the transcript. There is a spot on the application to explain about any W’s, time lapses in education, or any other things that look bad like academic renewals. I did that and got accepted to all of the UCs I applied for.

How long ago did the Ws happen? Did you retake it and complete it? Doing that and explaining yourself will make all the difference.

hey flwrgrl what major are you and what colleges did you get into? and what did you say about your Ws?

I got my W in calculus 1 my first semester at a CC. i then just used AP credits and skipped on to math 2. so yah i actually dont even really need this class i think. i was gonna take it just to raise my gpa after i got a B in math 2 to make my pre-req gpa look better.

@ AngryStudent13 I got into UC Irvine, UC Davis, and UC Berkeley. Didn’t apply anywhere else

My ending GPA was a 3.9 but that doesn’t matter because now I am a 0.0

My major is statistics/math.

Well, it had been a couple of years since I had received the last “W” in English. I explained that I was working full time and unfocused about what I wanted to do. I wrote something like “the W’s on my transcript are a constant reminder of how far I have come in my endeavors for a higher education and serve as a reminder of how much harder I need to continually work to achieve. . .blah, blah.”

You’ll be fine ^^
