2nd Year Attempt

Hey, everyone. Here’s the deal:

I applied to USAFA this year (to enter as class of 2011). I was unsure of my decision, though. Not whether or not I wanted to go to USAFA (I did), but whether or not I wanted to “miss out” on the “regular” college life.

Well I got a nomination and everything was looking good like I had a good shot of getting in. Foolishly (at least in my opinion now), however, I made my decision to go to college and instead of completing my application, I told USAFA to close it.

Well, now I’m kinda regretting that and I think I may want to try again next year and actually follow through!

So now my question: How many people try a second time? Is it common for people to go to college a year and then go to USAFA?

Will I be too “old.” I know you can enter as long as you’re under 23 or something but I don’t want to be the one old guy in the class. (If I try again I will enter at 19 and turn 20 that first fall).

What are your thoughts on this?

P.S.

I am in Civil Air Patrol and am enrolling into AFROTC my freshman year, so I think I will be fairly comfortable making the switch from my current environment to that of USAFA, should I end up doing so.

Only about 1/2 the people entering come straight from High school. The rest are either preppies, college kids, or priors. So, you will not be out of the norm at all.

And AFROTC won't make you any more comfortable. I don't speak from experience, but I hear from many, including my room mate, that AFROTC is a joke compared to here.

Also, your age wouldn't be any problem at all.

Actually, from what I've heard, college applicants are more competitive and are better prepared for the academics than kids right out of high school. And no one cares about your age as long as you're not over 23 when you enter that summer.
