3.0 at CC

Okay so I’m in my second semester of community college. Last semester took 9 semester units, got a 3.67. Chill. So then over summer I moved away from my hometown, and my parents moved 500 miles away. I’m working 30 hours a week and taking 13 units now (2 normal classes, 2 honors classes and an honors lab) and things are not looking too good… I’m not going to get less than a B in anything, but I am so ashamed and terrified that I could potentially get a 3.0. That is of course worst case scenario, but I do not see myself getting anything better than a 3.5. My top choice is Berkeley polisci. I know that after this semester I still have 40 units to improve my GPA, but I was wondering if this will completely ruin my chances because I cannot help but feel that way.

If it helps, I know somebody who got in with that GPA a few years ago for Poli Sci

No, it won’t ruin your chances. Shoot for the 3.5 and you’ll be on track. If lower, when you apply note in the application’s additional comments that you had a temporary setback due to the reasons noted above.

Oh god. I’m literally gonna get a 3.0.

Relax. A few B’s will not be the end of the world. Try to take advantage of any extra credit opportunities.

I know somebody who got a GPA in the 2.4-5 range, worked very hard, and got into Berkeley PoliSci with a 3.5 (upward trend). Anything’s possible. Relax, just try your best.

I agree with @goldencub. Don’t stress too much about this right now. There’s nothing more that you can do than to keep working toward your goals. When you do apply, you’ll have plenty of chances to explain any difficulties in your schooling. If you keep stressing out over this, you’ll do far more harm than good.
