I did really bad freshman year, i got a 3.0 gpa. And i want to got to a really good univeristy, maybe even an ivy league, but does that mean i cant get in since i did so bad freshman year? So i still have a good chance of getting into a competative univeristy if i do better this year?

yes, but all schools consider class rankings no? And freshmen grades effect your rank? I wonder how they work this into the equation... (I am in the same situation as you are bittersweetie33)

As I understand most colleges look at your freshman year as a sort of "transition period", so freshman grades aren't too important at a lot of schools. As for class rank, at least my school lists class rank both including and excluding freshman year grades on transcripts, so you might want to check to see if yours does the same.

Having a 3.0 and ending with a 4.0 might look better than going from a 3.9 to a 3.5, even though your overall average would be lower. Upward trends look great.

Yea, I second the upward trend thing. I had like you had a low freshman year GPA i think maybe a 2.9 not sure but sophmore year I brought it up to a 3.9 and at the moment it is at a 4.0. When your guidance counselor writes you a recommendation make sure she mentions the upward trend.

jPod- what school are you attending/applying with a low GPA? I'm in the same boat (3.663 ED GPA, 3.745 RD GPA) And... when you say colleges like upward trends, do you mean colleges even like the ivies like the upward trends?

I wonder if they ivies really care... I mean, I have the worst cumulative GPA just because of my crappy freshmen year. Though I have done much better in my sophomore year (5 A-'s and 1 B+) and I am now shooting for 6 A+ :D.
