Hello, I am a rising senior with 3.07 weighted, and 1730 SAT. I've come looking for help because I'm literally having panic attacks over the fact that I might not be able to get into college.

Participated in a French exchange program (stayed with French family and hosted two french students in America)

I understand that my GPA is abysmal and my SAT scores are meh. I did have depression and self-harm issues along with a rocky home life, but I don't think that will spark the sympathies of any admissions board. I would like to major in English and Psychology and minor in French. I know I could do a lot better in college once I get away from my home life and all the stresses that come along with it. I've done pretty well at the Community College I'm taking summer courses at and it's one of the best in the country. I know the suggestion that attending community college for a year semesters and then transfer will turn up, but that is not an option. Personally, I do not have any qualms about attending a community college. My parents will literally disown me and kick me out, so I cannot do that. I would like to go to a decent, respectable school. I'd prefer to stay on the east coast, if possible. Some colleges I was considering are below but I do not think I can get into any of them.

Marymount Manhattan College
NYU
UMASS Amherst
University of Delaware
University of Connecticut
Rutgers University
Boston University
Old Dominion University
Northeastern (um well not really i'm not delusional)

Please help me, my anxiety is taking over and I can't even speak. That is how much this is stressing me out.

Have you tried seeing where you are in relation to others by visiting [College Admissions - SAT - University & College Search Tool](<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>http://www.collegeboard.org?) You can see what the median SAT scores and GPA’s are for incoming Freshman for each of the schools that you listed. I can tell you that there might be a lot of students with 3.07 GPA’s but not many with 1730 SAT scores. My guess is tha your 1730 places you in the above average range. Don’t stress out…you will definitely get into college, I promise!

Listen man, there’s a way to fix the GPA. I’m not sure if your school is familiar with BYU Independent Study Courses. They are these courses you take online, made by BYU, a university in Provo, Utah. For example, your freshman English grade is a C. If you take a Freshman year English course on BYU Independent Study, it could become an A. Once you finish the course, they send a test to your school. If you pass the test, the grade becomes a C. Talk to your college counselor about that, it really helped me. For the SAT, try to get around a 1950-2000. Then your chances increases for schools like NYU and BU. For the ECs you’re set. Good leadership positions! You also took summer courses, which is always great! Good luck! You can do this!

Chance me back?: Chance me (I’ll Chance Back!!) JHU, GW, NYU, BU, UVA,UConn, Wake Forest, and Brown

thank you! your responses made me feel better haha. I’ve checked out their website a lot dancemomdee but it doesn’t really help much when it comes right down to the ones I want to apply to. What I’m worried about is the fact that my weighted gpa is 3.07 and my unweighted is btwn 2.6 and 2.8 (im not exactly sure). There arent too many decent schools that would accept that. Plus, I’m asian (indian) which doesn’t give me much of an advantage when applying to the big schools like BU or Rutgers. What can I do to help me get more of a competitive edge when applying?
Any liberal arts schools that might take me?

Like sergiok said, make up your worst grades through BYU and do it ASAP! My friend is currently enrolled in 3 BYU courses and she’s doing really well.
