hi,
my gpa was a 3.01 unweighted but now with my grades, it is going to be a 3.08-3.1 and i will have a 27 on the ACT, constant upward swing no semester worse then the one before it, good ec’s and will have held 3 paying jobs come application time next year, what are my chances at THE Ohio State University

o also i will be applying to the college of education and human ecology, for hospitality management.

to be honest, you will probably get deferred…I was deferred with a 3.3 and a 27 and I applied for undecided major…I was deferred and then rejected…last year average ACT score was 27…this next year it will be like 28.3…so if you really want to go to OSU try and raise your ACT 2-3 points

buummmmmpppp

I don’t understand why you’d be so concerned about what other people think your chances are. They are not making the decision to admit you or reject you.

All you can do is apply. If you get rejected, go to a community college and get your grades up. It’s as simple as that.

Get that ACT up a couple points, and you’ll fare much better. As of now, I’d say you sound like you’re on the line.

Of course, your chances are higher if you’re in - state.

i’m out of state…illinois…fhdaiosfjdsf

Hey, kln, people ask for their chances on this board all the time. Discussions about chances are a way for people to share information about various schools’ standards. If twenty people tell someone he has no chance, then he may decide not to waste ten hours and fifty bucks applying. So, it’s a worthwhile question.

Your GPA is low for Ohio State and a 27 ACT is about average. Several classmates of mine who applied with me for fall '09 with around your scores were deferred, so I don’t think you have a good chance of being accepted. I would still apply regardless, if you have the time and money. Perhaps a regional campus would be an option? There is an OSU facebook group for class of 2013, and a lot of accepted people have posted their ACT scores if you want more anecdotal evidence.

mantori.suzuki, I wasn’t trying to be rude or anything with my post. I can see your point, but I don’t completely agree with it. If 20 people told me I had no chance of doing something that I was passionate about…I would still try to do it. Putting so much on what other people have to say is not a very good way of living. What if this person decides that “he/she’s not good enough” and doesn’t apply because a few people on the internet say that it’s not a possibility? We have no idea if this person will or will not be accepted. Also, I don’t know anybody who could possibly spend 10 hours on the application to OSU…It’s actually not a very difficult process at all…and the application fee isn’t so outrageous to where I would consider it a waste of money. I’m just trying to encourage the original poster to apply and go from there. After all, we don’t know what we can accomplish until we at least make an attempt.

I only had a 23 ACT and mid 1600’s on my SAT, and I applied early (late August) I think, and I was accepted; it was one of the first acceptances I got. I’m OOS; my GPA was a 92. I did write what I thought was a good essay
and I had great ECs. I did apply Exploration/Undecided. So, you never know–I did think with OSU applying early helps.

Im going to Penn State though ::::))))))

i am OOS… i applied with a 2.6ish and a 31 ACT and got in… i did however have a very hard courseload and decent AP scores… i would say if u can get that 27 up to like a 29 you would be in
