hi i have a 27 on the ACT and will have a 3.1 uw gpa when i apply to penn state-up during the fall of next year, i will be applying under the major of hospitality management and i have good ec's 3 paying jobs and a constant upward swing in my gpa, i was just wondering my chances at penn state university park?

What’s your weighted GPA? PSU looks at that one.

With a 3.1 and an ACT 27 you’re looking at a branch campus for 2-years before they’ll let you attend UP.

and what’s your gpa from this school year?

three paying jobs is really impressive, if you’re working 20+ hours/week.

What’s your weighted GPA? I got a 27 on the ACT and was accepted. I had a 3.6 W GPA though. If the W GPA is a 3.4 or above, I’d say you have a good shot at maybe summer for University Park.

If you want to have a good chance at UPark, you need to send the application before the 1st deadline. I believe this is some time in November, but check the calendar.

My D attends PSU Hazleton, when we applied they told us that if you get the application in the 1st batch, you have better chances. Unfortunately, she missed the deadline, but we are very happy with Hazleton.

Your GPA is good for UPark.

Well my son had about that GPA unweighted and a SAT equivalent of about a 28 ACT (1290/1860) and was denied for UP fall and summer. He goes to a very competetive, highly ranked NYC public high school that doesn’t weigh or rank. His application was completed by mid November. He had good recs, a decent essay, and showed a trend of improving since freshman year. He was notified maybe 10 days after the app was complete. It seemed like they barely looked at it.

Meanwhile, classmates who sent their apps in around the same time and had similar, but slightly better stats, were accepted in late January, both for fall. One had about the same average but a 200 point higher SAT. The other had a slightly higher average (maybe 3.2) and a SAT about 100 points higher.

I’d guess you’d be borderline for UP.

All 3 applied to the school of arts & sciences.

After being disappointed at first (PS was high on his list), my son fared much better at the other schools he applied to and is planning to attend UDel which had been his top choice all along.
