3.1 GPA and 1470 SAT score. Where can i go?

GPA: 3.2
SAT: 1470

Freshman: 2 Honors
Sophomore: 2 Honors
Junior: 2 Honors
Senior: 1 Honors, 2 AP (Statistics, World History)
I do not have much Extra Curricular at ALL....but for what its worth it consists of church work (vacation bible school, president of youth group) and photography/videography (portraits, weddings, events, etc.)

The school that i'm trying to get into is Rutgers University, New Brunswick for preferably business, but any other major such as sas would be good too. I'm aware that my GPA won't fair well and my SAT is drastically lower than average here. I just want to know if there's even a glimmer of hope for acceptance, and that if at least a few other people with similar statistics got accepted as well.

Another school that i'd be happy about is Rowan University for business, and i'm just wondering what my chances are there too and how selective it is.

I'd also like to add that i prefer not to go to community college. Although i know the perks of doing this and transferring, i would like to fully experience my 4 years as an undergrad. Any kind of help would be appreciated. Also, any other colleges you guys recommend would be totally welcome too, and that includes anywhere out of state as well.

Are you in New Jersey? If so, have a heart-to-heart with your guidance counselor about this. That person is the one who is in the best position to tell you what your options are.

Try Fordham. It might be a bit of a stretch but I have taken classes there and I think it is a great place. Since they are Jesuit they do value commitment to church as well. Also, it can’t hurt to embellish your extracurriculars a little bit. You might also like Salve Regina in Rhode Island and I think your stats are more or less average. Ursinus in Pennsylvania is a good school and they don’t require SAT’s. I have no idea about the Rutgers stats but it definitely can’t hurt to apply. If you make your essays good they may overlook the weaker parts of your app. Best of Luck!!!

Look into your state schools. Rutgers is good, but you will have a tough time getting into the new brunswick one, I assume you didn’t have an interest in the Camden and Newark ones(well, its easy to see why after watching Harold and Kumar). I am from NJ and I know Rowan, Ramapo, and Rutgers are all good schools for those in your stat ranges.

Is your 1460 SAT out of 1600? Or is it the sum of 3 sections?

If it’s the sum of 3 sections, what is your M+CR score?

What is your budget for college? how much will your family pay?

If you want to go OOS and your SAT is for 3 sections, it’s likely that your parents will have to pay all costs because your stats aren’t high enough for the schools that give great aid.

Yeah its based on all 3 sections for 2400.
Reading: 470
Math: 550
Writing: 450
As for the budget i dont necessarily have one right now, just looking for colleges that’ll be close to my stat range.

Rutgers NB campus will be a slight reach for you because of your SAT scores although you would fit the profile for the newark and camden campuses. Since you are in NJ I would recommned looking at Rider(especially for business), monmouth, rowan, drew, maybe even montclair or kean.

Fordham won’t be a likely option with those stats – I second the idea of looking at Rider

You need a budget, but you look like an auto-admit for the Kansas public schools.

*Yeah its based on all 3 sections for 2400.

As for the budget i dont necessarily have one right now, just looking for colleges that’ll be close to my stat range. *

??? You’re a senior and it’s January. You shouldn’t “just be looking for colleges” in your stats range without some kind of knowledge of your financial situation.

What good will it do you if we name 25 schools that will accept you if you can’t afford any of them???

Do you really want to waste time and money filling out apps for 25 schools and then have a handful of unaffordable schools? What would be the point of THAT???

We could easily name 50+ privates and OOS publics that will accept you…but we don’t want you spinning your wheels for nothing. We want you to apply to schools that you’ll get accepted to AND you can likely afford attending.

Luckily, your M+CR exceeds 1000, so there are schools that will accept you…but we need to know what you can afford. How much will your parents pay?

What is your budget??? If you don’t know how much your parents will pay, then ask them.

YOUR BUDGET will largely determine where you should apply and where you can go to school.

*Rutgers NB campus will be a slight reach for you *

???

Rutgers NB will be a significant reach based on the OPs stats. His stats put him in the lower 25%…which is often reserved for athletes and other special admits. It would be one thing if his GPA were high to compensate for his scores, but both GPA and test scores are low for Rutgers.

Rowan is a solid state school. Are you in commuting distance if you need to cut costs?
Please also consider applying to schools like William Paterson, Montclair State, and check to see if Richard Stockton has a business major offering too. Also consider applying to other Rutgers campuses (Camden and/or Newark). I have not looked to see where you fall in terms of stats at any of these schools, but you can do that leg work. All of these schools will give you a better chance for admission than Rutgers NB. BTW, Ramapo will also be a significant reach school for you, should you be considering it.

I agree with mom2collegekids that Rutgers NB is a significant reach.

If you are looking for a large flagship university you might want to consider West Virginia University. You meet the GPA and SAT requirements for WVU. The cost to an out-of-state student is about $27,000 per year (Tuition, fees, room & board plus books). Your GPA and test scores qualify you for a $3,000 per year merit scholarship.
