3-2 Engineering Class of 2017

I’m making this thread so that current applicants to the 3-2 engineering program at CU can have a place to ask questions (e.g. regarding application materials, application questions, financial aid questions).

Who here has applied?

has anyone completed the program with a business major as there first major? How difficult is this to do?

If you go to a school where you are allowed to major in business for the 3-2 (for some schools Columbia requires a science or math major), then that is not too difficult. As long as you take your engineering pre-req courses, it should be OK.

Just to update this thread, today all my application materials were checked off (recommendations and transcripts).

Any of you guys going to Comp Engineering at Columbia?

@coobot: yea, I’m doing CE.

Can you guys keep us posted about how it’s going for you and what it’s like when you get there? My D is interested in this program but is still picking a college (class of 2019). I’m interested to know how welcoming they are to 3-2 students? How are the living conditions? Did you get financial aid? Is it harder/easier than you thought it would be? Etc.

@redpoodles I will try to return to college confidential in the fall and type something up but I make no promises.

bumping for visibility

Are any applicants able to track financial documents yet?

Do you guys know when the decision will be released?

@Schief Late April. Last year decisions were released after 5pm on the 24th. In 2012 decisions were released April 20th. I would expect decisions the week of the 20th, possibly the week of the 27th.

What major did you apply for?

@Hammy1754 I applied for IEOR.

I applied, still waiting for the notification. What was the approximate rate of acceptance last year?

CU doesn’t release admissions statistics for the combined plan program. There are about 150 students in both years (junior and senior) of the program at CU. I don’t know how many applied.

Thanx! It seems the number of 3-2 students is not huge. I am confused are there only 3-2 program students in Columbua’s Engineering Undergraduate or there are some other students (not applied as combined plan program)?

There are approximately 2000 undergraduates in SEAS (Columbia Engineering). That’s right, the number of combined plan students is not large. I think each affiliate school sends only one or two students every other year to CU. You can apply from a non-affiliate school, but the admissions process for that is separate, and statistics are not publicly available.

Do you know when they found out that they would be notified on the 20th? @Hammy1754

Last year, on the 22nd, a user said he/she got an email from Columbia saying the decisions would be released after 5 pm on the 24th.

Just got my decision! I assume everyone who applied got an email saying decisions would be out after 5 pm today.

Post your decisions here!

Hi, all.

I got accepted last year, and I have been loving it. Rooms are at 362 Riverside. I was lucky to get a single. It’s a bit of a walk to campus, but I love the neighborhood. Next year, I’ll be dorming on campus.

It’s definitely harder than Fordham, where I came from. Everyone at Columbia is like the smartest kids at Fordham. But, I’m working my butt off and made Dean’s list last semester.
