Hello!
I have been accepted to the Georgetown SFS. I intend to major in Science, Technology, and International Affairs. I am very good at math and science, but I already believe that international relations is my passion. This program seems to be the perfect combination of these different disciplines.
I have also been offered a private merit scholarship of $10,000/year if I complete a degree in engineering in 5 years. I am looking at the 3:2 engineering program that Columbia offers with many liberals arts colleges including GU.
My question is, is it wise or even possible to try to achieve this 3:2 degree, and complete all the 3:2 course requirements as well as the SFS and STIA requirements in only three years? I would be willing to complete as many of the more standard required classes such as Calculus and Computer Science as possible at community college over the summers.
I don't know if engineering is my true passion yet but I do enjoy math and science, and engineering seems to be the most lucrative degree to have nowadays.
Should I pursue this 3:2 program or do most students find it too much and eventually drop out?

lydie43, Congratulations!
My son has the same interests as you, but, is not interested in engineering. If possible, can you please share your scores/EC etc. that allowed you to secure Georgetown? I am trying to understand his chances at Georgetown.

I’ve actually never heard of anyone doing this through STIA or the SFS period, just through the College. I don’t think it would be impossible, necessarily; whether it is something for which there is a precedent/policy is a different question.

The listed contact (Assistant Dean Ed Meyertholen) would probably be in the best position to know of any students currently completing this option, or alums who have completed it in the past, and whether any of them might be willing to serve as a resource for prospective students.
