nope. id lower your standards a bit unless you've saved a starving african culture or are a sure scholarship recipient

it depends: are you instate, is there anything about you that stands out?

Are you an URM? , we need more information to give a fair anwser

yes i am in state and black. I don't know if that might help, but my GPA for the current year was 4.0. But my freshman and sophomore year grades are horrible.i have been in the country for a year now and Got three awards for the highest average in algebra2, Business(Information systems, finance, accounting, Business law,web page design, Adv info sys) and AP US history. I can also get good teacher recommendations.

You actually have a decent shot at UVa. Not great, but good. Your URM status helps a lot, and being in-state helps a lot, and good teacher recs will help too. I would definitely apply, but have several good back-ups.

I agree. You being In-State makes your chances A LOT better
however, i would have some safeties

You have a very good chance at UVA based on the demographics, but most importantly, the fact that you're in-state. You have likely a 50%-70% chance since your SATs are strong and UVA wants strong in-staters, and has ridiculous 2300+ Standards for us poor OOS'ers...your GPA is not stellar but is decent enough to not ruin your chances. Just write some good essays and have some good recs.

you have a decent chance due to being in-state and a minority. if you can write a good essay, that would make it even better.

what else can i do over the summer to increase my chances of admission?

Get a job or volunteer a lot.
