I’m 99% sure I’m getting a 3.3 GPA, and I’m scared of not being able to get into med school or a good grad school. I got an A- in my first year writing class, a B+ in bio lab, and a B in gen chem. I know people are going to say if I can’t pass these classes with an A, then there’s no hope for future classes in pre med. I’m a bio major, which just adds to the whole fear. I couldn’t get a single A this semester and I feel crappy. I’m not looking for pity, I just want to know if I’m screwed.
You’re fine. Figure out what didn’t work this semester; fix it for next semester.
It’s a whole different world. You will adjust and do better as you “get” the new style of college. My S feels the same way right now…don’t worry. There is a lot of time left! And you are not the only one feeling that way.
My first semester GPA at Umich was below a 3.3. My GPA at the end of Freshman year was below a 3.4. I graduated with my Masters from U-M this year and I am making good money.
One bad semester is NOT the end of the world.
Note: I studied in the College of Engineering at Umich.
@vkugal I’ve known people who’ve failed classes and got into medical school in the end.
Being pre-med is a journey, not a sprint. You’ll have plenty of time to adjust and show medical schools how you’ve grown academically from a rough first semester
I’d even argue that you’re first semester has been going fine: A LOT of students stop being pre-med after their first semester.
Reflect on what went wrong this semester and look to change it next semester. Did you cram for exams? Did you not have enough time to study? Were you sleeping in lecture? Find ways to improve!
