3.30 and lower gpa

Why do people say this gpa is horrible? What’s wrong with it? Not everyone can get a 4.0. My highest gpa was 3.06, and hopefully by the time I transfer I can reach that or 3.20.

But for real, what’s wrong with having a 3.30 or low in college or high school?

I understand your pain I have a similar GPA just slightly above yours. Is GPA between a 3.0 or 3.5 bad? No, not great but still good and doesn’t mean you won’t get anywhere. I already got accepted to 3 schools already as I’m a senior in High School so not being an A student can still give you opportunities. Still, I deeply regret not working harder throughout my High School career. Yeah if you have the better GPA you can definitely get to better schools and in college will make it easier for you to get to graduate schools and more places to get jobs. GPA is not the whole factor but there is room for improvement so you should try to think about the future to bring your GPA as much as possible.

Looks like your in college, I don’t know if your a freshmen or a sophomore, but try to work on your GPA as it can help you transfer to better schools and if you want to transfer you could be able to some competitive schools but I’m not really sure.

Thank you for your kind words. I never thought someone agreed with me. I have three semesters left hopefully by fall 2017 I will be in a four year school!

High school and college are two different ballgames really: High school should be a lot easier comparatively, so a 3.3, while not bad, isn’t as good as a 3.3 in college. In college, for a variety of factors, including difficulty of the school and structure of the classes, is much better. As you’re in college, anyone telling you a 3.3 is bad doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

Generalizing, college really has 2/3 lines:
3.9 or above - You REALLY know what you’re doing
3.5 or above - You know a good deal more and are better than most
3.0 or above - You can very adequately do the job and know a good deal

For some of the harder majors, this scales a bit down (see Engineering). Most people don’t really care about the 3.9 or above. A 3.5 or more is plenty impressive for college. A 3.0 will be respected. Don’t sweat a 3.3, that is a very good GPA for college, but in high school there is a difference IMO.

Some students aren’t as motivated or driven. My older son was always bright, and had a great deal of intellectual curiosity, but was a truly godawful student. He is now pulling down a 3.3+ GPA at a respectable university, but it has been a somewhat bumpy road for him. That might not impress a lot of people who contribute to this site, but we’re all delighted to see that his lowest grade is a B-. He can see the light at the end of the tunnel in terms of earning a B.A. I don’t know what his employment prospects will look like down the road, but he was never going to major in a “practical” field like Engineering or Computer Science. He won’t starve. He might have a number of career reincarnations, but straight, flat roads aren’t always the most desirable routes in life.

@woogzmama also brings up a great point to bear in mind as well - GPA is NOT a reflection of a person’s intelligence - how hard someone tries in school alone is not often correlated to their full potential - pure academics don’t excite many despite what this site will make you think.

Nothing is wrong with that GPA. If you are working hard, learning, can follow instructions, have good social skills etc. you will be just fine. There is more to success than having a 4.0 GPA,

Years ago, I declared that report cards are a student’s paycheck. They are no more a full measure of worth than a paycheck, but almost everyone will have to eke one out somehow. Only a blessed few will ever find that they are paid for what they truly love doing. For most, the paycheck makes the other, fun stuff possible. Similarly, a student will need to do what’s necessary to earn the diplomas and advance, but - ultimately - nobody is going to care down the road how you did on a Math test as a high school sophomore.
