Hi. I'm transferring from Binghamton University for Fall 2012. I'm currently a freshman. I'm majoring in engineering and I'm looking for some safety schools to apply to as a transfer. I know my GPA, 3.35 - fall semester, isn't great, but I'm becoming more and more unhappy as I go to Binghamton. Please help me decide on some schools. Here are some schools I had in mind based on my chances of getting in. By the way, my HS GPA was 3.7 if that might factor in. I'm also open to schools that aren't safeties. Please help or give advice!

Would Require a Miracle to Get In
-Lehigh University
-Lafayette College
-Bucknell
-Carnegie Mellon - I got wait listed once for some odd reason...

Not to attempt to hijack your thread, but I was about to make this exact same thread and I’d like some advice on this as well. I also have the same GPAs as you (which makes this coincidence even cooler), but I was interested in econ or business oriented schools.

This is hilarious because Binghamton University is known for its School of Management (Sadly not its engineering) If you’re from NY, you should apply - in-state tuition though you’ll have to take out loans if you’re not low-income. You should apply. I’ve met people with GPA’s that are even lower than mine and some people who aren’t the brightest bunch. According to Wiki, it has one of the top 4 undergraduate business schools in NY, which is in the ranks of NYU, Columbia and Cornell.

I’m actually from California, so I’ll have to do some research on the school. I think one of the biggest problems of being on the West coast is that I simply don’t hear about schools that aren’t the best of the best. I didn’t even apply to any east coast schools as a senior, even though there are definitely great schools there and my brother is going to one right now. Only just a week ago did I hear about NYU’s school of business, which is kind of sad…

This is probably the weirdest coincidence because there’s a lot of great engineering schools in California, such as UCLA and Berkeley (top ranked too), and its the location of many companies that hire engineers. Sadly I can’t apply because the out-of state tuition would make me go broke. For you, I suggest researching colleges that are located in the northeast, specifically NYC or NY. NYC is very business oriented not to mention it’s where Wall Street is located. We tend to have a lot of great business schools (Baruch College for instance). Unfortunately for me, Cornell is probably the only school in NY that has a reputable engineering program, but would require a miracle from all the deities from every major religion in order to get accepted. Also, Lehigh and Carnegie Mellon have reputable business programs, but with our GPA’s, it’s going to be tough to get it. I was also in the same boat as you, it was only after I finished applying was when I heard about all the great engineering schools. By the way, it seems you have hijacked the thread - you’re getting more help than I have been getting on this thread.
