okay so i did pretty bad in high school...I got a 1470 out of 2400 on my sats..my gpa was disgusting so I decided to go to community college for a year...or a year and a half.
I just finished my first semester and got a 3.4 and really hope to keep it up. lets say my average GPA by the end of the year is around a 3.5...would I be able to transfer after ONE year (with having poor grades in high school) into my frist choice Elon Univ, FSU, College Of charleston, Loyola Marymount Univ, and the only instate school/and my last choice school would be SUNY oneonta...I really want to transfer ASAP. Should I just wait a year and a half so they dont look at my high school records..or would I be able to transfer after a year? somebody please tell me my chances in each school after a YEAR ANDDD a year and a half.
also is it easier to transfer in as a spring semester student?! thank youuu in advance!

The problem with transferring after one is that your high school gpa and SAT will be a large factor. My advice is to wait till you have 60 units and transfer as a junior. After 60 units some school do not require high school gpa. A lot less students apply in the spring so the chances of being accepted look high but in reality the same gpa is still required. If there is a particular school you are really interested in contact an admissions officer and explain your situation. Hear what they have to say, they are the best ones to get advice from. Keep up the good work and good luck.

Yeah, Charlie is right. Generally, those applying as sophomore transfers have to have a good track record in high school, because admissions will put a lot of weight on their high school record.

There’s no harm in applying this year, but your chances will be much better as a junior.

ahh thank you guys soo much! yeah I guess ill just apply after spring…deff cant wait for 60 credits. does anyone know if I have a better chance at LSU after a year?!

No matter which school you asked to be chanced at the answer will remain the same. After one year your high school gpa and SATs will be a large part of the application. If you feel like you must transfer then apply there is no harm in that. However, with poor high school grades and low SATs your chances of acceptance are not great. Some schools do take into consideration an upward trend so the poor high school grades may help but do not count on it. At the end of the day it depends on the admissions officer’s opinion.
