My dream is to apply Early Decision, get in and NOT have to go for Regular Decision apps. So obviously, I'd like to aim high - but I REALLY want a place where I would be admitted under ED plan.

I would like to apply EARLY DECISION for:

ED I - either Northwestern (major: journalism), Duke (major: english, +I've heard they don't look much at GPA?), or Johns Hopkins (major: English)

ED II - Emory

But I know those aren't reasonable.

PLEASE SUGGEST ME ANY/ALL COLLEGES THAT WOULD BE A MATCH (aka: will probably be admitted) FOR ME UNDER EARLY DECISION PLAN!

Thank you!

Yeah you have no chance with that GPA. You should apply regular decision so that you can use 1st semester to get higher scores and bring up your overall average.

Thanks Nosike. If you (or anyone else?) has suggestions for where I WOULD be able to get in Early Decision, please please please reply! Thanks!

Your SAT scores might give you a chance at a good school, but the ones you have listed are reach schools. But don’t give up hope. If you can bring up your grades the first semester, I would apply to one reach school, but maybe not one of the ones you’ve listed. Why don’t you apply to public universities in California? I hear it may be easier to get in this year since the schools are having major financial cut-backs… How about UC San Diego or Pepperdine, a private school?

megan93: My hope was to be accepted through early decision, and most public schools don’t offer (like UCs) any early plans. The only private is Pepperdine, which I had the opportunity to visit twice and honestly didn’t enjoy very much - plus I would like to go far from California.

What type of schools do you want to go to? How about Boston University or New York University? Boston has a pretty high acceptance rate. Also, you may have a chance at Emory or Oxford college. I saw on College Board that Oxford’s stats are lower and acceptance rate higher.

I think to apply early, the school would most likely be private, 4 year, far from California, and if possible, I’d like a school to be prestigious (although my GPA is not helping that). I’m actually really considering Emory, which I’ve heard is just great. Would I have a chance at Emory, ED II? And I will look further into BU and NYU, thanks for your opinion!

Your gpa is about the same as mine and its really holding me back…so I advise you not to apply early because you’ll really need your senior year to bring your gpa up…
You should definitely apply to NYU there is a decent chance you can get in and it is far from California :)

Wow really? That’s really unusual, since it seems like all other CC users have a crazy GPA! Yeah, it’s holding me back too, since my SAT (I think) is above average, but my GPA is way below… I will apply to NYU but I think regular decision. I hope I still have a chance in RD. And yes, it is far. :)

Two types of people that frequent this board:

People who enjoy self-congratulations

People who feel superior to others and attempt to prove it to themselves via academics

In addition, keep in mind that people who fall under category #2 may or may not be telling the truth regarding their grades and qualifications. There was a case last year of a guy throwing around his 3.8 UWGPA / 2200 SAT but who forgot that he posted his actual grades 6 months before that and had a 3.1 UWGPA / 1850 SAT.

What if you get in your reach schools but receive little merit money? Won’t you be screwed? (I’m wonderingvthis myself)

ED is not the way to go for you if financial aid is a concern!

Your parents must be willing to let you apply ED & they will pay what ever price?
Once accepted ED, you must withdraw all applications from any other schools.

So, you want to just apply to one school ED is that what you want to do?
Then apply ED to that one school, but have a back-up plan, apply to others!

BanjoHitter, wow, I never thought about that happening! I guess I’d rather tell the truth and face reality.

aStyle and SLUMOM - FA is NOT a concern for me. My parents are willing to pay full tuition if needed, therefore are encouraging me to apply to my “reach” schools for Early Decision and take my risk.

bump…if anyone has any idea where I would get in as ED applicant, please post it. thanks!

would anybody please chance me for those three colleges? I am OOS for both UNC and Michigan.

ED is appropriate for your one dream school above all others. Adcoms are expert at seeing through an insincere ED application.
