3.46 Gpa?

I go to a top 20 liberal arts college and got a 3.46 GPA first term freshman year..how bad will this hurt me in job/internship apps in the future? Thanks!

i got lower than that. i kind of freaked out but then i put things in perspective and realized it'll be alright as long as i do better. things average out don't they?

but i mean, 3.46? that's a good gpa. pull it up a little and you're golden.

Don't worry about it. Potential firms/grad school/whatever know that first semester freshman year is the time when you transition into college life. They expect that GPA to be lowest. That said, a 3.46 is not bad at all.

I wish I had a 3.46 my first semester. I had a 3.33 at an Ivy.

Be proud of doing that well your freshman year at a competitive college. Try to pull a 3.7 this semester (really only changing your B+'s to A-'s) and you'll be more than golden.

Oh damn you're screwed for life! Better start brushing up your burger flipping skills!

Thats not a bad GPA. Keep in mind, you're more or less not going to get what you had in HS.

Either way, if you want a better GPA, don't make the same mistakes (if any) you did first quarter/semester. Seeriously though, it won't hurt you in the long run.

College is not high school. This was my first semester, and I had plenty of friends shocked when they received C's. To have a 3.0 is perfectly fine, and anything over a 3.3 is something to be very happy with, at least at my school.

your life is over

Remember, you never put GPA on a resume. You would put with honors or cum laude or something, but not GPA.

With that said, a 3.46 GPA is really good. Maybe not the best if you are trying to get a Rhodes, but should definitely help you out in the long run. Try to find out where you are ranked in your class to get a better idea of competitiveness.

Remember, a lot of people go to college with a 2.0 and go mentality, and in almost any college about a 3.0 or a 3.2 is considered really good.

I currently have a 3.33 at my school (junior year) and am in the top 15% and while I could (should) be doing a lot better, it still is not a bad GPA.

Also, because you are in your freshman year, you are probably only taking required courses, not courses for your major. That GPA is what really counts.

You never put GPA on a resume? That's blasphemous. Maybe after you're 25.

Many firms have a standard operating procedure of assuming a GPA under 3.0 if one is not listed.

You can use GPA to your advantage on a resume. Though, once you are a year or two out of school, no one really puts much emphasis on it. It is really used mostly for internships, and grad school admission. And to the OP, a 3.46 is very good at a top 20 liberal arts school. I was going to be all sarcastic about it like I usually am with kids who complain about their A-'s, but I won't. First of all, it is freshman year. Lots of kids do poorly freshman year and then pick it up completely. If anything, it is good to have a nice upward trend on your transcript. Second, grad schools and internship recruiters weigh your upperclassman years much more heavily. It is the tough courses and upper level major courses that matter, not the dumb intro prereq's. I did pretty terrible my whole freshman year. I started off with like a 2.8 and was pretty upset about it. The next two years, I turned it on and got a 3.9 average over the next two years. I ended up with a great internship for this summer even though my cumulative GPA isn't as great as I would have liked. So don't worry, you are fine.

Yeah listen to what Devilsrule said, my cousin essentially told me the same exact thing. Oh by the way, Devilsrule, the Devils suck. Go Ducks!

Lol 2003 baby, Devs over the Ducks. You got your cup but not from us...

lol. worst thread ever.

Ovechkin will bring a cup to DC... wait for it.

Haha you are the second Caps fan I have heard from today. Caps are one of those teams that I can't say anything bad against. First of all, I have never actually encountered a fan of theirs until today. Second, I kinda feel bad about how poorly they always do. Must make the fans pretty restless. Be happy you have Ovie for so long. I don't know if he will bring a cup to DC, but he will sure make them a whole lot more competitive (along with that amazing Mike Green, and Semin, Backstrom)

You need to put your gpa on your resume until you land your first job or go onto graduate school.

3.46 is not bad? WHAT?! 3.46 is pretty good.

The rule of thumb is to put your GPA on your resume if its 3.0 or better.

that's ridiculous...I wouldn't even put up my GPA if it's 3.5 or below........

for some big companies there are tons of 3.7+ in their piles....

Below 3.5? I find that ridiculous! Especially if you're in one of the more difficult majors. If an employer does look at your resume, and sees no GPA listed, what do they assume? Probably not a 3.0; likely they'll think it's a lot less, which will definitely hurt you, especially if you have a 3.46.

Thanks for the input everyone..and I forgot to mention I took Econ 270 ( soph level) my first term..anyways, I feel better now!
