3.5 avg for columbia

new entrants to columbias graduate MS program in chemical engeering had an avg GPA of 3.5..do i technically have a chance with a 3.3 GPA given all other areas of application are strong? i mean you have to think there''s tonnes of kids with 3.7+ GPA's so there must be a number of kids well below a 3.5 (but still above a 3.0).....

Depending on the spread, yes, you would have a chance.

does the MS program at columbia offer finaid

^Those students with below 3.5 GPA must have came from a really good school to begin with.

^ Not necessarily. They may have good research/publishing/lab experience, which is a huge part of admissions to research degrees.

im from penn state ranked top 20…i dont know what ur definition of ‘good school’ means though…but um yeah i called columbia and they dont offer fin aid to MS students…should have known lol but they didnt explicitly say so on their website like most other schools do…well im thinking of applying to the PHD program now…the average GPA for entrants is higher (3.6) do you think i should still apply?..

The only harm in applying is the time and the application fee it takes. Go for it.

u have a 3.3 from penn state? that culd make things harder

Just apply, GPA is only one factor.

dude penn state is top 20 in engineering…
