3.6 GPA into Berkeley?

Applied to Cal

3.6 (Foothill & De Anza)
Lots of ecs from high school (Interact executive member, 3 year class vp, badminton) and college (Students for Justice, Circle K, Sales associate)
Honors Program (UCLA TAP)
Peace & Conflicts Major

Do I have a chance?

*Sorry, I also posted this in the Transfer Forum but I don't know how to delete it. =(

yes a chance you have

I think you have a chance. For one thing, I’ve never heard of that major…

I had mostly A’s but seriously messed up my Fall quarter because I was sick. B+, B+, B and even a C in Statistics.

I did state on the update “I contracted the flu and in the classes which were honors/speech–discussion and presentation orientated–I was unable to make up the missed work. The grades I received in Fall 2009 is not an accurate representation of my academic abilities.”

:(!!!

I’M TERRIFIED!

Oh, well… in that case…
Let’s just hope they don’t look at individual grades and just your overall GPA.

have you checked the acceptance rate per major at UCB?
uc stat finder.
if the acceptance rate for your major is 60% or higher, you’re in.
I had applied under philosophy which is around 60% and my gpa was somewhere around 3.4-3.6

i wanted the peace & conflict major, how many language courses do you have? O_o
also, did you put ECs from your HS ? i didn’t put any from HS, it says on the application not to put any ECs from 3 yrs ago?
but yes i do think you have a chance of getting in, mostly because peace & conflict major seems unpopular & cus of honor program & the college ECs. hows ur essay??

more like uc merced

3.6 isn’t bad for that major. Also Foothill’s UCLA TAP probably doesn’t affect UCB’s decisions very much but I have to commend you because Foothill’s TAP program isn’t easy (a lot of hard instructors, limited class selection).

i second what was said above, 3.6 is not bad for PACS…and having stated the issue with fall grades i am sure they will take the holistic approach. if you had a good trend and then a bad semester, it looks better than those bad grades sprinkled through out your semesters. there was obviously an issue rather than you just not being able to keep your grades up in one class each semester. 3.6 is very competitive considering your situation.

I think you have a decent chance :)

Oh and Foothill dorms are awesome! Over spring break I stayed will a friend who goes to Cal and lives in Foothill. It’s quite a walk uphill, but the dorm has an interesting personality, kind of like you’re living in a cabin (but not really, lol). The people there are friendly too! Also, you won’t be bombared with huge, rambunctious parties, want them or not. Plus it has a wonderful view! :D

@nikker: Foothill is a CC with no dorms.

the foothill theyre talking about is a cal building complex not the cc

Your major will probably have about 5-10 other people applying (just guessing), so yea you should be fine.

i ll give u a 70-80% chance; i transferred last year from cc to Berkeley and im not a peace and conflicts studies major but i do know a few ppl who got in with similar stats.

and there will be 50 or so ppl who will be transferring for that major, pretty small major.

pigsy -
I took up to French 3.

I did put down ECs from high school.

I graduated from high school in 2008! And did it really say put to put down anything from 3 years ago? I don’t think it should matter for me because I practically did the same things (leadership, Interact club, badminton) all my years of high school!

Did you get into CAL? I’m curious because I regret not applying as a media studies major and I also had at 3.7

This thread is 5 years old…Do you think you will be using college confidential 5 years from now? He’s not going to reply.

By the way, it looks like he got in based on his post history. You can look at it if you click on his name. Good luck.
