Hi guys… So I started out freshman year average. I had a 3.67 gpa both semesters. And then coming into sophomore year I was screwed by finals and that really brought all my a-'s crashing down. I ended up first semester w/ a 3.111 gpa and 2nd semester w a 3.0 gpa. Right now my UW gpa is 3.36 and Weighted Gpa is a 4.4 With an upward and realistic trend. I hope to end high school with a 3.6 and Weighted of 4.53 or greater. My class schedule was rigerous from the start. I took honors algebra 2, honors bio, honors English, and Ap world as a freshman. Sophomore year, I took…Honors Trig/CALC A, honors English, honors chem, APUSH. Next year my class schedule looks like this
Ap psych
Photography
Bio technical engineering (Honors credit)
Ap physics B
Calculus BC
AP LANG AND COMP
GYM
My EC’s are pretty good…
I have over 250 hours of volunteering as a sophomore. I am a Mentor to freshman as i take half of my lunch to explain to a group of freshman how to transition from middle school to high school. This is a very selective process as only 8 guys total are in the program compared to 30 girls. I am varsity debater w a state award. Most likely captain senior year. I am in NHS. I also have an internship w a congressman to teach me about politics and buissness in general because I am hoping to major in buissness and go to law school and become a corporate lawyer.
I am hoping for a 35 on my Act and I can get a 2300 on my SAT. I also come from one of the most competitive schools in the state (top 15)
Do I have a chance for these schools and if not what are some things I could do to improve my chances.
UT AUSTIN
UCLA
UC-Berkeley
USC
UMICH
UVIRGINIA
VANDERBILT
NORTHWESTERN (I’m from Illinois if that helps)
BROWN
CORNELL
GEORGETOWN
WAKE FOREST
thanks for your time guys!
It’s a little difficult without any test scores to go by. I know this is totally unhelpful, but I don’t really know much about state universities- except that UVA is very hard OOS.
As for the others. Vanderbilt is probably a reach but not a high one. I have no idea if location plays a factor at Northwestern. My assumption would be that you are less likely if you live in the area due to the high number of Illinois applicants. Brown is similar to Vanderbilt. I would say Cornell is probably a low reach. Georgetown- it depends on the school but I would say high match or low reach. And Wake Forest would be a match if your GPA and scores end up as you say they will.
Chance me back?

Hate to break it to you but UC’s like Berkeley and LA don’t look at freshman year and are very gpa heavy. I don’t think you have a shot there. Michigan is extremely gpa heavy as well. Same with Virginia. Vanderbilt loves high test scores so that’s worth a shot if you get what your thinking. Brown, you need some insane passion/extra curricular. Northwestern and Cornell I’m not very familiar with. Wake Forest you’ll have a decent shot. Georgetown maybe. It’s worth applying.
Oh and UT Austin, what’s your rank and prospective major?
Can you and your family afford UCB/UCLA at $55K/year with little to no financial aid? You need to calculate your UC GPA 10-11th grades using a-g required courses and AP/IB or DE classes only for the extra honors points:http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
UCLA/UCB based on posted GPA are Reaches.
I am thinking of going either pre law or a buissness major and then going to law school and I just calculated it if I work my butt of w all my summer school courses counted and stuff. I can end up w a gpa of 3.69. Does that change anything?
And our school dosent do ranks but if I have to say I’m in the top 10% for sure and I was looking to major in prelate or buissness as I said so the McCombs buissness school would be a major win.
