Thank you guys!!!

In my opinion, you have no shot at the following schools unless you drastically improve your scores or are a URM:

MIT, Carnegie Mellon, Northwestern, Rice, Georgetown, Tufts and UT if you’re OOS. The cancer will definitely help, but I still think that you would need a higher score. Also, what are you planning on majoring in? Your list is all over the place and you may want to narrow it down more. Also, NYU is one of the most overrated schools imo. You’d be better off taking it off your list.

Are you a CA resident? Have you calculated your UC-weighted GPA? An unweighted 3.65 is far from “crappy,” and if your UC-weighted GPA is over 4.0 (as it probably is with all your AP classes), then you have a shot at all the UCs, and only UCLA and Berkeley would be reaches for you. Some of the others would be reaches if you’re applying to Engineering schools, however. Just so you know, my son had an unweighted GPA of 3.3-3.4, but his UC-weighted GPA was over 4.0. He got into UCSD and Davis, but not Berkeley. His SAT was similar (slightly lower) to yours. I have to agree that MIT, Northwestern, Rice, G’town, Tufts, and CMU (for Engineering and Computer Science, at least) are probably unlikely. I’d select one or two as reaches if your next set of SATs are strong and if your weighted GPA is well over 4.0. I think MIT will probably remain out of reach. I also agree on skipping UT (and Penn State), if you’re a CA resident - you already have affordable options at home, and you’re unlikely to get any merit aid. If you’re not a CA resident, then I see no need to apply to all the UCs. Apply to your own flagship campus instead.

I think you have amazing chances, to be honest. I don’t think MIT or Georgetown are totally realistic, but other than that I think you have amazing chances at a ton of schools. Maybe try using one of those “match me” things on like the college board website, where you can plug in your GPA and Test Scores and it will give you a large list of schools that you will have a good chance at. They don’t take everything into consideration, but I think it will give you a decent overview of schools that are in your range. Good luck!!

(also: if you could chance me on this post it would mean a lot, thanks!!) http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1689217-chance-me-will-chance-back-nyu-early-decision-steinhardt-media-culture-and-communications.html#latest

Thanks guys!!! @ericajordan‌ @woogzmama‌ @micmatt513‌

And if it helps, I have a super ■■■■■■ GPA but I’m still optimistic about my chances (because others have told me to be optimistic) and you’re in a better position than I am, so don’t stress over it too much.

ill post on yours @ericajordan‌

I am majoring in Comp Sci/Buisness. I live in California. Currently my top choices are:
UCB
UCLA
UCSD
UCI
NORTHEASTERN(bc i have a better shot at it than North western)
GEORGIA TECH
USC
U OF WASH
AND CMU

i dont care at all about the other schools

@micmatt513‌ @woogzmama‌

do I have a good chance @micmatt513‌ @woogzmama‌

That isn’t a bad GPA at all especially since you had cancer, that’s devastating and will obviously have a toll in your life. Improve your SAT score and I think that you’ll get into most of those schools. Maybe not MIT (with the current score) or Georgetown, but not because it’s your fault, just because they’re just very competitive to begin with. If you have a hook, then I think that’ll help as well, but typically you want a 2200.

Ok thanks mate. It means alot @iwantstanford‌16

Just saw that you mentioned me. I would say that you have a decent shot at UCI, UCSD, University of Washington, Northeastern, and USC. UCB, UCLA, GA Tech, and Carnegie Mellon will be reaches. UC’s tend to weigh GPAs heavily (or so I’ve heard) in their evaluation of students, so I think that you may be a bit disadvantaged for UCLA and UCB. However, your SAT score is not completely unrealistic. Carnegie Mellon and Georgia Tech are a bit tough to get into even for good students, but I wouldn’t be completely shocked if you got in.

If you can bring your SAT score to a 2150 or so, you’d have much better chances.

As of right now your reach schools are:
MIT
Carnegie Melon
NYU
Northeastern (ONLY BECAUSE OF YOUR GPA)
Rice (ONLY BECAUSE OF YOUR GPA)
Tufts (ONLY BECAUSE OF YOUR GPA)

Matches:
Ohio
Texas
Penn
Rennslaer
GT
VT
USC
U of W

@embrunn‌ GT is no longer a match. The acceptance rate has plummeted the past two years. NEU and GT are high matches

@lacoste ah, i didn’t realize

i can kiss my dream school goodbye @Lacoste‌

i am not getting in @Lacoste‌

taking 8 ap classes and having a 3.65 UNweighted GPA is FAR from crappy. Other than the Ivies and the GT, you have a very decent shot at top universities like Carnegie Mellon.

dude i want GT darn!!! what about UCB @cottonkk

@jays98 Im not saying you def. not get in GT… Its just that the odds are against you… UCB i would say 50/50 shot. If this makes u feel better, my friend got into columbia this year w/ taking 1 AP class and got basically straight Bs throughout hs. So dont give up!
