I am a community college student that is currently in my second year as a Chem major. I have a 3.7 gpa that can be raised to a 3.78 given that I get straight A’s this semester, and more so if I do next semester as well. I have gotten 3 B’s so far - one in both calculus 1 and 2 and one in Physics 1. My concern is that these courses are all a part of my major, so my major gpa is unfortunately even lower than a 3.7.
Does anyone know if the UCs look at major gpa’s or general gpa when determining admission? Do they consider fall/spring grades received after the application has been submitted? I am in the range of GPAs of transfer students accepted into the College of Chemistry if it is general gpa that is considered, which is where I would like to go; however, I am on the lower end.
I am having major regrets over my grades as the few B’s I received were all 87%+ and I worry now that I have ruined my chance of getting into one of the best Chemistry programs. As far as extracurriculars, I worked a year in food-service and have been tutoring kids outside school for 8 months. I’ve just joined the tutoring center at my school for stem and was thinking about writing one of my essays about that. I also play in my community orchestra.
Is there anyone who got into UCB or UCLA with stats like these? There is a research opportunity in December I was hoping to join, but that would be after applications are submitted - is that something that I could later notify them of? I appreciate any input. Thank you.
