Can I call up the school and ask them exactly how to be those students who successfully transferred in?

First of all, thank you everyone for your responses. I mean it!

Yes, I am really geared towards medical school and I do realize that I need to be in an environment where I can get high grades. Tulane definitely isn’t easy, I still have to work my arse off but its what I want to do. Its just discouraging sometimes being around a community of students who don’t care about their grades. My friends look at me weird if I admit to them I stay in on a Saturday because I have Mon/Tuesday exams. I am a little apprehensive about transferring because if I have to work my ass off at Tulane to get by I can’t imagine the workload at Brown or a higher ranked school.

Haha, well, at least I stirred up some NYU v. Tulane controversy. I think when it comes down to it, both schools look for different qualities in their applicants. Both schools have the similar academic standards, at least for prospective students. From my point of view, standards of Louisiana students are a little lower. A VERY LARGE percentage of students in the honors program are from LA, and I really cannot figure out why. Its very unusual. Perhaps they want to keep Lousianas best and brightest in NOLA. Anyway, back to NYU/Tulane… being a native New Yorker, I can say that both schools are similar in a lot of respects. I like Tulane, just not the location. It really is not the weather or anything like that. Maybe I just can’t shake the “presumptuous” New York attitude, but I miss NY a lot. A lot of my friends here never want to leave, and I can’t wait to get back home. I am trying to give New Orleans a chance (and am going to continue to) but thus far, it simply is not me. I have been away from home for long periods of time, but living here for four years does not really excite me. Think I just need to shake this feeling of homesickness?

My original intent on coming here was to get out of the NE bubble and open my eyes, as corny as that sounds. If I end up staying here for undergrad, my plan is to apply to as many MD/DO schools in new york as possible, and hopefully get in to one! I should be worried about getting into med school AT ALL at this point so maybe I should slow down before I get choosey about where I want to go haha.

Also with Brown, does one have to be in PMLE to be pre-med? As a HS senior I did not even attempt to apply into the program. I thought it was too large of chance. I just applied as a human biology major. Maybe I should have showed more initiative. Could I not apply to Liberal Arts and take a science major and do the traditional route?

And I definitely agree that some schools are more “transfer-friendly” than others. My Princeton dream died within 30 seconds of looking at the FAQ section.

Thanks again everyone!

Good catch Knights, yeah I got confused there :)

So that means I should contact BC to get the advice on how to transfer in like those 100 students.

No, not at all. PLME is a special BA/MD program which must be entered as a fr. However, anyone at B can take premed coursework and major in whatever they like, transfer or otherwise.

Do you know that B is need-AWARE for transfers, so if you apply for FA, your appliction will be put in a different pile that if you aren’t?:
