3.8 from High School means nothing but 3.8 during Uni means Ivy?

Hi all,

What's the deal with transfer admissions? I read a thread where someone with a 3.8 was deemed "solid" for Ivies, without really listing much else other than SAT.

Is transferring like this? In High School there is NO WAY that a 3.8 would make anyone solid for HYP.

ALSO WHAT IS THE EMPHASIS PLACED ON HIGH SCHOOL RECORDS (sat, ECs, etc) FOR JUNIOR TRANSFERS?

I'm undecided (maybe econ, haas or math) at UC Berkeley and my GPA is currently 3.8. I would much rather be at a few other schools as I have never really wanted to go here. My FA package is great (low income) but the experience is really not too amazing. I won't go into detail but I don't like the school or the area at all... Please understand!

With a 3.8 can I transfer into another school? Yale, Brown, and even Wharton since I'm seriously considering business/finance instead of econ/math. Please help!

Thanks

I’m also considering a transfer app… have you considered Duke? They might be more transfer-friendly.

Wharton might also be more transfer-friendly than the others (and I’m into Williams/Dartmouth…) but look at Wharton’s requirements for junior transfers… I don’t think we can fulfill that at Cal, can we?

I wish I knew more about transferring, but it does seem to be more stats-based

might have to scratch Wharton

Much less emphasis placed on HS record for junior transfer.

Yale and Wharton aren’t going to happen. Brown maybe, but Brown isn’t known for being an econ powerhouse to my knowledge.

Duke’s transfer rate most years hovers around 7-9% if I remember correctly, but this year they overenrolled the Class of 2014 and they admitted just 1% of transfers.

I’ll put it this way: I attend an SEC school and applied to Duke, Georgetown, UVA, UNC, and Vanderbilt (applied to business or econ if the school didn’t offer undergrad business with a 3.9 in the Honors Program at my school after three semesters. Pretty good ECs from college: student government, fraternity leadership, etc. I went to an extremely competitive private school in HS and slacked, so I didn’t get great grades (~85 average, 4 APs). I did have a 32 ACT though and was very involved there as well. I was accepted at UNC, UVA, and Vanderbilt and was rejected from Duke (I am a multiple legacy as well) and Georgetown. I’m going to McIntire at UVA next year.

^ Why won’t Yale or Wharton happen? The OP only listed a GPA

^OK, Yale could happen. Acceptance rate is 2-5%. Wharton isn’t going to happen because I don’t think OP can fulfill all the requirements necessary for junior transfers.
