I will have a 3.86 GPA and a 4.0 GPA in my major. My high school grades are weak; I had a 3.1 GPA. My ACT score is also weak; I had a score of 30.

So basically, no amount of prestigious awards or internships can increase my chances of transferring to schools like Boston University, Georgetown, or GWU, correct? Even if I get a 4.0 in my sophomore year of college, I still won't make it to those schools because my ACT score and high school GPA are hindrances, correct?

I’m not the person to judge, but 1) I thought that BU was not extremely selective 2) 3.86 sounds like a great GPA to me and as a transfer student, your college grades matter more than HS or exam results.

Quick question… How is a score of 30 on ACT weak? That’s pretty good if you ask me, and a 3.86 is awesome. Colleges don’t really look at your HS grades unless your’e a freshmen, so you’ll be okay.

I think you’ve proven yourself quite competent on your academic capabilities looking at your college GPA and standardized test score. If you’re transferring, it truly depends on the program whether or not it will concentrate on your high school transcript vs. college transcript. However, your grades have improved a lot and the schools will clearly see this. A 30 is absolutely fine, so don’t even attempt to retake the exam. I would just focus on keeping your grades high for the semester/quarter and writing really good transfer papers. Good Luck.

I was accepted as a transfer to BU with a 3.73 (may have been a few points higher, don’t remember) and a h.s. gpa of 2.8. BU isn’t that super competive. The acceptance rate last year was around 28% and the avg. gpa of applicants was 3.5.

What year are you, Freshman? Georgetown is higher ranked and they admit fewer students. They weight your SATs/ACTs and H.S. career much more than BU and GWU. I’d say that Georgetown isn’t a lock, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have a shot. Apply and see what happens. How are your ECs. Georgetown and other Jesuit schools want students who volunteer and are involved in different activities. I’m sure you would need to really establish why you belong at GT in your essay.
