Teacher Recs:
- one from my Chem teacher (science/math req) and I was one of her top and favorite students
- other is from my English teacher, got a B in his class but it was evident that I was a diligent worker.. I knew he would be sincere and brutally honest so I asked him if he would be able to write me a strong recommendation for the colleges I was applying to, and he said that they would be good

My counselor rec should be a general rec. Coming from a school with and huge (900+) graduating class, he probably just copies and pastes statements and fills in the blanks with the student's name.

Essays: Average but sincere. Personal Statement is pretty okay, not outstanding - talks about my diversity in softball.. cliche I know. My Duke supplement was strong though, really showed that I have interest, and mentioned some things that are truly unique to Duke that attracted me.

Strengths: GPA, rank, level of interest, teacher recs
Weaknesses: SAT score (compared to others in the applicant pool), EC's, essays to some extent

Thanks for reading and again you rock!

Your Sat is on the lower side for these schools, but you still have an outstanding record and you are still an extremely qualified candidate for all of theses school. The thing is that these schools are all so competitive that it’s hard to chance someone for it, but I say you’ll definitely get into a couple of them.

Oh, and you’re in at Penn State, Drexel, and Villanova. Good Luck!

thank you!

Duke & UPENN: Reach
Georgetown: Reach (Maybe Low Reach)
John’s Hopkins: Reach
P State, Villanova, Drexel are all Matches and maybe even safeties

bumping…

Duke ED - Reach
Georgetown - Reach
John’s Hopkins - Reach
UPenn - Reach
Penn State - Safety
Villanova - Low Match
Drexel - Safety

I agree with latitude123. Drexel, Villanova, and Penn State are shoo-ins.

Considering you are applying to Duke, Georgetown, and JHU, I am not surprised people are saying you fall “below” their typical standards. However, you have that cut-off, so now it is ultimately up to your essays. IMPRESS THEM!

Good Luck, and lets hope you get accepted ED to Duke (assuming its your first choice–obviously)!

If you are .5 below the valedictorian, then your schedule was not hard enough for those top schools. Maybe Georgetown. Also two APs junior year probably isn’t enough. Good luck though!
