I am currently enrolled in 4 AP classes, and plan on taking only 3 APs. I took 1 last year (Calc BC) and got a 5, but it seems for some reason that 3 this year is pretty weak. Should I take the 4th (English) even though I feel really insecure about it and need to basically self study physics C since our teacher has taught us nothing this year? Or is 3 okay and colleges won't see me as a slacker?

Also, how much do APs and AP scores weigh in terms of college ADMISSION?

Colleges want to see you take the hardest schedule possible, but 3 APs isnt bad. obviously from an admissions standpoint 4 would be better, although it wont make or break your case at any school.

There isnt a lot of info on the importance of AP scores to my knowledge...I have heard conflicting reports. Maybe someone else can clarify.

If you take the class, but don't take the exam, colleges won't be pleased.

I'm just wondering - why don't you want to take the English exam? Have you taken any sample tests yet? From what I can tell (I'm self-studying this year), it doesn't require any knowledge. The multiple choice in particular seems to consist entirely of reading comprehension questions - even if you don't feel comfortable with the exam itself, you'll probably get at least a 4. Even if you received a 3, it wouldn't be any worse than not taking the exam at all - when you take a class designated "ap" on your transcript, colleges will be very skeptical if there isn't a corresponding ap test score.

Holy moly are you kidding me?!?!?! 9 or 10??? wow...
I decided not to take the English one (registration closed today) because I need to focus on history since I have to learn a whole year's worth of it, and I have to basically self study and with the help of 2 friends, help the rest of our class get it when AP test time rolls closer. I will have my hands probably full, and will also be working on publishing a paper, so maybe its better if I don't have to study for English...

Also in college apps I could maybe explain the situation that my school does (i.e. we take half Lang half Lit each junior and senior year and then people choose which AP test to take at the end, so I am not fully prepped in either)

i am currently taking two AP classes (calc bc and us hist) which both require that I take the AP tests, so there's two.

then, i also elected to take two more AP exams, chemistry and english lang., because for chemistry the honors course at my school is really challenging and the teacher recommends it (most who take after the honors course get 4 or 5), and for english the teacher strongly recommends it.

I'm taking 12. hlaf of the exams are over classes I am not tkaing this year and a third are over classes I have never taken. it's gonna be a hell of a lot of fun

3 is good enough unless you are not a human being!

For those who're taking 12 AP classes, do you guys have any time to do something else? What is the meaning of taking too many AP classes since ivies won't give any credits for some of your perfect scores!

vtran, only 12? the 9 or 10 were for classes i was gonna take. If you count the APs i'm taking that aren't for classes, I think i'm taking around 15 or 16 this year.

if you are applying to ivy or ivy-caliber schools, you MUST take the hardest schedule possible. yes that means AP english. i was struggling in AP lit this year, and asked my guidance counselor if i could drop to honors, and hes like "HELL NO, that would seriously hurt ur chances." so i stuck it out, took a B for the semester, and so far i have received a "likely" email from columbia. so take as many APs as you can senior year (i only took 2 junior year)!

You guys can do something unique in order to get admissions from your dream schools. I am sure if you can take 12 AP classes a year, someone else can do better than you can.

This is really bad, a computer can accomplish what you are doing now, will that be impressive if you guys do something only HUMANS can do?

I like learning. I learn better if I'm being gauged by a test. looks good onthe app I don't mind studying this stuff, so I figure why not do it.
