3 best things to know about CMU

I am a senior from Michigan and i ended up visiting CMU a few weeks ago. However, i don't know if i got a very in-depth view of the school. Here are the things that stood out particularly to me:

1) the architechture...no gothic stone buildings...a disappointment to me. However, this is not a reason to turn away.

2) the city of Pittsburgh...i liked it a lot, perhaps because it is so different from anyplace in Michigan (the hills...)

3) the school itself...i got the feeling that the major focus is more career-based than i am looking for...although it is a good thing that they emphasize collaborating between departments. Correct me if i am wrong.

as far as physics goes...i really haven't heard much about their department at all, so i'd welcome any comments.

From students or anyone who is familiar with the place, could i get some descriptions about the campus/atmosphere/anything important to know of CMU?
