3 Courses - kiss of death?

Right now I'm not sure if I'm going to transfer or not (or if I do, as a sophomore or a junior), but I'm definitely trying to keep ALL my options open. For the competitive colleges, would it be horrendous to take only 3 "real" courses total?

They'd be:
Physics (4 units)
Chemistry (5 units)
A humanities class (4) units
and 1 or 2 seminars (1-2 units)

for a total of 14-15. This semester I'm taking 4 real classes for a slightly above average 16 units. I just am not sure if I'd be able to handle 2 very hard technical courses AND two other courses, but I don't want to make it seem like I'm taking it easy on purpose...

opinions? thanks!

Depends where your transferring and what your schedule was in semesters past. That said, taking three courses makes you look pretty flaky.

yeah depends on where you are thinking -check with admin for the schools you like and see what they say.

hm. what if I also took a no core course for units (i.e. research or a community service project)… it’d be 2-3 units along with 3 unit humanities, 4 unit physics, 4 unit math, and 2x 1 unit seminars for a total of 15-16? I’m looking to get a lot more involved next semester (and think the possibility of me even trying to transfer is lower… but like I’ve said, I like to keep my options open!) and I’m not sure if another core class would be the most optimal combination of academics and extracurriculars

edit: the schools that I was attempt to transfer too would most likely be rather selective, and I know the odds I’d be facing wouldn’t be very good … :(
