I know that 3 Courses on the Quarter System (15 credits/quarter) is a regular course load. But here at UCSD, courses are only worth 4 credits, and thus in order to achieve the 15 credit/quarter courseload, one must enroll in 4 Courses (=16 Credits).

Currently, I am enrolled in a Freshman Seminar (1 Credit) + 4 Courses (16 Credits), totalling to 17. I'm taking pretty difficult courses: Math for engineerers, A C/C++ Programming course, Chem for science majors, and an Anthropology course. I feel that this courseload is a bit heavy for my first quarter, and want to drop my Anthropology course. (I added it two weeks later, and thus have over a hundred pages to catch up on--with a midterm coming up next week)

First year plans that are laid out by UCSD show that students should only take 3 courses their Freshman year fall quarter anyway, as in the winter, I will be taking an 18 credit-hour quarter, and in the spring, it will exceed 20 credit-hours. So by the end of the year, I will have more than 50 Quarter Credits (~33 Semester Units) even if I drop my Anthropology course this fall, so I will have more credits than required for Sophomore year standing.

I just want to know if anyone feels like this would hinder my acceptance to USC, if I took only 13 credits my fall quarter? (Math, Computer Science, Chem + Freshman Seminar)

I'd rather get a 3.7 with 3 courses than a 3.3 with 4 courses. + the Freshman Seminar
