<p>Some people need to spend more time studying than others because they learn at different rates. Also, some people may need the extra studying time to make up for an academic deficiency in their past that their "better-performing" classmates do not have, but has not previously been identified. A popular example is some US engineering students who find it difficult to do as well academically as their peers from India or China who've had more rigorous math backgrounds.</p>
