3 on AP Euro: The End of the World

I am a sophomore and this was my first AP year. I took AP Euro and AP Spanish. In Spanish I got a four. I didn't mind that at all. I got a 3 in AP Euro.

This is why it's the end of the world:

The whole year, I was kind of a prodigy. I did well on all of the tests in the class which were super hard. Most of the kids the kids who scored fives on the tests averaged C's and I usually made B's or A's and kept my grades up with EC.

AP Euro in my school is taught by the same teacher who teaches US. I'm taking US next year. He's going to be extremely disappointed in me for barely passing the test. I'm actually considering dropping out of that class.

3.My confidence is shot. Nuff said.

I had confidence before taking the test. A lot of the students expected me to get a five. A four would have been acceptable even, but I have no idea how to show my face around anyone ever again with this three.

I'm not really looking for you guys to comfort me by saying things like "Oh a three isn't that bad!" That will only make me feel worse. :[

If any of you have gone through the same thing as me or are currently going through the same thing, please share your stories.

By the way, I am currently processing a re-score request. I sent that in last week. Hopefully something comes out of it. :'[

This feeling is worse than a really bad breakup or anything that has ever happened to me.

I think I’ll become a hermit.

It is funny that in Euro History you are learning an important of lesson of real history… ie learning from one’s failures or shall I say from falling short of expectations…

First, remorse and inward looking is good but you should plan to do well in the coming tests and that will show grit and beleive me, overcoming shortcomings is a good trite that will get you farther.

This one test will not break you and it is not even GPA, SAT or SAT IIs. But you should be sincere in estimating where you stand and prepare accordingly and not let some false signs guide you. Remember school standards vary and that is why the national level testing exists for standradization and some times people misjudge and have a false standard for judging themselves. But you my friend, have more time in your hands to adjust and correct. Good luck!!

Were you? Or do you just think you were? Because if you were, then you wouldn’t have gotten a 3 on a test with a generous curve.

Then maybe you overestimated your capabilities and underestimated theirs.

If I was your teacher, first of all I wouldn’t care. Second, if I did care, I would be disappointed that you chose to run away from the problem instead of facing it.

What do you want me to do about it?

Tell them you got a 3, straight up. What, you’re gonna lie about your score just to make your image look better and make you feel better about yourself??

You simply didn’t put enough effort into preparing for the exam. My teacher was more than incompetent and my friends and I, who really spent spring break to AP Euro test time studying our asses off all got 5’s.

Just because you may have been a prodigy doesn’t mean you didn’t need to work for a 5. Your friends probably studied harder than you did before the exam. Put it behind you, take the fact that you’re going to be humiliated by your friends next school year, and outperform them on the APUSH exam.

You’re a sophomore; you’re still getting used to taking standardized tests.

Also, I’m sure your teacher will not care that your grade on a test was passing but not awesomely passing. Don’t worry about it.

QFT

It’s a bit overshooting things to say Euro has a generous curve, but I agree with you on all other counts.

What’s a rescore request? I want to make one too! I got a 3 on APUSH :/

AP tests are achievement tests, they are pretty black and white. If you were such a ‘prodigy’ in European history, then you would have scored a 5. Getting a 3 is like getting 50% of the MC correct with 3’s on the FRQ’s/DBQ.

If you knew you would feel this bad if you got a 3 before you took the test, maybe you would’ve studied more. This thread is pointless.

Well, thanks for the advice. Even though a lot of it was pretty harsh, I actually feel a great deal better about the situation.

I guess I just needed some tough love. No, I was definitely did really well the whole entire year. My achievement in the class was unprecedented. I think some overestimation was involved, but I’m sure I did pretty well on the MC (Way better than 50%). That’s why I’m getting a restore.

I’m going to face the challenge head on, and take APUSH. I’m also going to tell people that I got a 3. Straight up.

I also think that some of you are interpreting the words “kind of a prodigy” pretty poorly.

Just to make it clear – I DID work my BUTT off for this test. That only makes it more painful though. I wasn’t exactly expecting a 3.

You win some; you lose some.

Your reply was pointless. I can’t believe you wasted not only your time, but mine with something that you could have just thought to yourself and moved on.

Why is everyone being so harsh to him?

For you first AP year a three is fine, it may even still get you credit at some colleges. I really wouldn’t worry too much about it. I really don’t think it’s even a big deal. APs don’t play a huge role in admissions, and normally when they do it’s just to assess how harshly/easily teachers grade at your school. You would have to consistently score low on multiple AP tests, for it to make a real difference at all in admissions.

Here’s my super special attempt at being inspirational. Forgive me if it’s a bit cheesy, but here goes…

Chin up good lad! What’s done is done. You can’t dwell on the past that you can’t change. You must focus your attention to the looming future that’s ahead of you, and then kick the crap out of it! That’s the only thing you can change. So work hard to do so.

Thanks! I’m not a “lad” though. But thanks everyone!

“Your reply was pointless. I can’t believe you wasted not only your time, but mine with something that you could have just thought to yourself and moved on.

Oh, so I’m the one who’s wasting everyone’s time? I’m not the one whining on CC about a 3, when the score is your fault and your fault only. Seriously, what do you expect people to say to you? In all due respect, you need to get over yourself, “prodigy”. And a 3 is never the end of the world.

Stop replying. If you really didn’t want your ‘time wasted’, then you shouldn’t have even opened the thread. I may have gotten a 3 on an AP Test, but this last response just proves that you are all kinds of fail. Like-- you’d be that really expensive lasagna if cheese were equal to fail. In a way, you’ve done more for me than anyone who has replied to this thread, but I’ve think that’s enough. So again, stop replying.

I know you’ve probably subscribed to this thread or something because you’re just that sad and can’t stay away, but please, I think it’s over. Leave me alone.

@thrill3rnit3
ha. That was supposed to be funny right? So there is your laugh. Because no one else is going to laugh.

You didn’t realize that when you posted it did you?

A three is not “barely passing,” and no teacher in his or her right mind would actually be upset with a student for getting that score. I understand that it isn’t what you wanted and I totally know how that feels, but I think you’re overreacting. If you’d gotten a one or a two, that would be different, but you got a perfectly average score and you don’t need to be so unhappy about that. Cheer up!

“Like-- you’d be that really expensive lasagna if cheese were equal to fail.”

Lol! I will stop being a jackass, but what is this supposed to mean?
