Hi,
I was wondering if taking 3 summer courses is too much. I'm planning on taking Physics 1B (Corbin told me he's gonna teach it), Physics 1AL, and Math32B.
If anyone has taken summer courses and has an idea of the course load since it's only 6 weeks... is this too much?
I want to catch up on Math too because all my friends are ahead of me by two courses or more -_-.
You might wonder why I'm not taking Physics 1B and 1AL this Spring quarter... It's because Whitten's section is closed, and I don't want to be stuck with a bad prof. Physics 1AL is closed too.
Any comments/suggestions?
Thanks

i wouldn’t recommend all 3… i took 1b and AL last summer and it was already a lot of work… just take those 2 and take 32b at the same time with 33a next year :D

did you take it with Corbin? how was it? (since it’s a small class)

Try to get in Whitten’s class. Email him, find out if you have a chance.

Don’t take the 3 courses in the same session, unless you are dedicated to study most of the summer weekdays and doing lab reports.

So the perfect situation would be you getting into 1B in Spring, and taking 32B and 4AL in the summer. Sounds reasonable to me.

yeah i did (didn’t i suggest you that in the other thread? :D) anyway the class wasn’t too bad, it is a bit crammed in because of its only 6 weeks although you have class for an hour and half everyday… we didn’t get to magnetism but you learn that in 1c anyway… as for the class there is a quiz every week instead of midterms (i believe the average was around 10 out of 25 for each except the doppler one which is the only doable quiz, a lot of us got 25s on that one XD) the class was around 30 people so he’ll probably know you by name after the first 2 weeks… office hours were everyday after lecture and normally around 5 to 10 people show up depending on the difficulty of the material… then again there are plenty of chances to ask questions during lecture… we had this international kid from china in our class and he got 25s on all quizzes and screwed up the curve, so that might happen since there is a lot of international students during summer :D

I’m an international student -_^ not from China though, I do set the curve too (the other side of the curve lol) Yeah, I’ll e-mail Whitten… see if there’s a possibility…

oh no i mean like international students that only stay for 1 quarter… so they pick easy class or class they taken before so they can just chill… like my summer roommate was from taiwan and he pretty much just traveled to places for sight seeing most of the time…

Yeah, a lot of international students only take English at the extension center, or a few interest courses. They have minimal work, so they can go out at least 3-5 times a week.

If you live in Rieber in the summer, at least 1/4 of the rooms will be filled by non UCLA students.

Yeah, I know a lot of international students at the extension center… they just come here for a quarter or two…
Well, I think I’ll stay in Sproul in the summer and take Physics 1B and Math32B… I know it’s a lot, but it’s worth the money since it’s by unit…

Did Whitten e-mail you back with a positive response by any chance?
