Really stressed and anxious. I want to transfer to UCLA or Berkeley, problem is I have 3 W’s which I got during my first semester of college(general psychology, remedial math, philosophy) none of which are major courses. Due to a death in the family, I went through a depression. I currently go to cc in California. How much with the W’s affect me. I have a 3.82 and my major is sociology. I’m applying this fall to hopefully be accepted to those schools for next fall.
You’ve picked two very tough schools, but your major is not one of the most competitive ones, so that is in your favor. Will you have finished your associates degree? I would think that will be a major consideration. Were you officially diagnosed by a psychiatrist? If you have a doctor’s note, your advisor may be able to attach an official statement with your transcript.
They won’t care about the Ws. Just explain in additional comments, but they won’t care either way. They ignore Ws, especially when grouped together (and it’s only two; remedial is non-transferable). It’s not a setback in any way.
Sociology is a tougher one to get into, but not as bad as some others. You are definitely in the competive range. Don’t worry about AA degree. Most people don’t have them, unless you want it, of course.
@Groundwork2022 just a heads up, this is not how it works with transfers. I assume this might have started in general UC forum. It’s much simpler for transfers.
Forgot to mention my cumulative gpa is 3.82 but my transfer gpa is 3.92. Not sure if it makes any difference
^^^ it does.
