I am a sophomore and read over Browns foreign language requirements and saw that 3-4 years was the standard amount of time. I am aware I would like to pursue a career in the science or math field, so I am filling my schedule with science classes, but need to drop French to take them. Will I still be admitted with only 2 years of high school foreign language (+2 years in middle school)?

It is not advisable. It has happened, though. But you will not be coming from a position of strength if up to 4 years were available to you. It partly depends on what level you attained, though. Are you at French 2 or French 4?

Brown, and other top liberal arts oriented programs, look for strength and preparedness in all the core areas.

Generally, I would advise to do three years at least. Only drop after sophomore year if you took AP level that year.

As of now I am taking French 3 Honors (that is the highest level available for French 3) because two years of middle school french counts as one high school year. My schedule for next year will most likely be AP English, AP Calc, Independent Research, AP Bio, AP or GT Physics, AP Psychology, and World History AP if that helps for judgement.

I would stay with a core class like French instead of an elective like AP Psychology.
