I’m a high school senior, and was wondering how much benefit a third year of Spanish will help me out with college applications. I plan on taking another language, German, during college and hope to get into UC Berkley. I am planning on replacing Spanish with Computer Programming since I want to get the basic of programming because I mess around with development boards. Reason as to why, I get really unmotivated when learning something new because programming is very hard for me to fully understand. Also the fact that I don’t like memorizing without really knowing how it works. Planning on majoring in Electric Engineering. Last but not least, if I don’t appeal to colleges because I only got 2 years of language, does the the way I send my application affect the chances of me getting accepted. For example, something unique like writing about myself on a basketball. If you need some clarification, please post and I’ll respond back asap.
3 year is recommended but no required. If your overall application is outstanding, 2 years of a language will not make a huge difference. However with that said, if the majority of applicants have that 3rd year, you will be at a disadvantage. Ultimately it is up to you.
