My son (a jr) just took the ACT again and all of his section scores went up, which is great.
30 Composite
35 Reading
34 English
31 Science
21 Math…ugh
He actually thought the math section was easier this time but ran out of time. I don’t think he wants to take it again and I’m not sure he can pull up math enough to make it worth sitting for the test again. I also don’t think he wants to risk his highest sections going down. He doesn’t like math (which is evident) but his school math grades are all really good (A’s and a couple of B’s) and he’s taking pre-calc honors this year and has an A. He wants to study history or government in college so he’s not looking at engineering or anything math-related in terms of a major.
My question…with a very good composite score but a low score in one section, will that hurt him when applying to colleges? His top schools are UW-Madison, UM-Twin Cites, Loyola, Marquette and Butler. He has strong grades (3.87), tough coursework including AP, Honors and Dual Enrollment, extracurriculars including sports, student government and NJHS and NHS.
