Apparently, sample size is too small for literature (or any humanities course 21) to show up in MIT’s 2017 survey at https://capd.mit.edu/sites/default/files/about/files/GSS2017.pdf . However, of the majors listed, biology course 7 and biological engineering course 20 show the lowest pay levels at the bachelor’s level, not exactly a surprise.
@marvin100 makes a good point. Life is full of twists and turns. I graduated with a Mass Communications (broadcasting) degree . 2 interesting points:
- Had I stayed in that my long term salary would have been somewhere between 10X and more than 100X my starting point (was offered an on air job for 9k.
- After giving it a go for a few yrs, i switched careers and got into corp sales and ultimately own my own business and have been at 50X - 60X for many yrs
So it’s more to do with the individual. That said, some schools do a better job of getting one started on the right track and career trajectory can be (and usually is) influenced by that start. The IB or COnsulting kid who spends three yrs and does a good job will have many high end options and it’s easier to get there from certain schools. Same for CS and tech.
