300 level SS/humanity courses?

yo guys, i spoke with my advisor yesterday and she said 300 level courses such as philosophy, psychology, etc can be taken without taking 100 and 200 ones first. I need to take a 300 lvl to finish HU/SS req for engineering. what are your thoughts? Should i trust her and take a 300 level next sem/yr without prior knowledge?

Well, I think you have to have both the 100/200 level and the 300 level be in the same department (like philosophy… psychology is not a humanities department and won’t fulfill humanities requirement). I don’t think you should take a class where you don’t have the advisory prerequisites (they’re there for a reason), but if they don’t have any prerequisites, it shouldn’t expect you know anything else.

^ not anymore. UofM engineering just recently got rid of that rule for incoming freshman

There are many classes that you don’t need to know much before entering. Lots of philosophy courses, history courses, etc.

thanks for the replies guys :)

“^ not anymore. UofM engineering just recently got rid of that rule for incoming freshman”

What rule are you talking about? Is it rid of for the class who are freshmen right now or who will be next year?

Apparently they got rid of the sequence requirement. [Michigan Engineering | Core Requirements](http://www.engin.umich.edu/bulletin/uged/reqs.html)

Ah, bullsh&t, the sequence thing is ruining my already packed schedule…
