What if one of my supplement essays goes 50 words over 300? It still is under a page though.

When you put it in the common app supplement form you´ll find it´s actually a character count and not a word count, so depending on how big the words are that were used, it may fit.

I asked an admissions counselor the same thing about a month ago–he told me that they don’t care how closely you follow word count, it is just provided so that students do not feel they need to write three 700 hundred word essays.

My concern is the opposite. All three of my son’s short answers are less than 300 words (he still has approximately 800 characters left on each one). The instructions do state that brevity and clarity are important. He is an excellent writer and I feel that his anwers are well-written. Any thoughts before the deadline??
