I need a large scholarship in the State of OK. any suggestions or applications/links you can direct me to?
31 on my ACT and top of class.
Thank you in advance.
Did you talk to your guidance counselor? Did you google ‘scholarships’ for the schools you applied to?
Yes been there… done that Guidance Counselor is not much help at all…

Just kidding around. University of Alabama has great scholarships for both instate and OOS students. You would qualify to be a UA Scholar there. You also could quality for scholarships at the University of Oklahoma. Do some investigating.
qualifying at other Universities is not the problem… Will not go out of State… UGH… Why is OK. so stingy with the scholarships? Other Universities blow us out the water!!!
I’m not familiar with Oklahoma so I can’t comment. However there has to be some school that’s reasonable and instate. Any regional schools that are smaller and not as flagship-like?
So what can you pay per year? Instate tuition/fees are slightly more than $9000 at OU, which seems reasonable and they do offer merit scholarships. Are you a junior or senior? A lot of scholarship deadlines have passed. We need some more information to help you.
Which schools have you looked at? I assume since you live there, you have researched the biggest campuses already, so I don’t want to presume to tell you things you may already know about. But OU gives $3000 to freshmen with 31 ACT. They have the longest list of scholarships that I have ever seen. OSU also has $2000 for various ACT levels.
Don’t feel bad that Oklahoma is stingy. It’s really better than many other states. We are from California, and there are pretty much no automatic scholarships here. We look at midwest states and are envious that you have such awesome schools at relatively reasonable tuition and room and board prices.
Pretty much have looked into OU, OSU and UCO… I will be living on campus and I am a senior.
Are you a National Merit Semifinalist/Finalist? If you can get to 34 on your ACT, you’ll have the Regents’ scholarship, which is great.
@TheDidactic
lol…but this student is a senior. Unless he’s a NMF, it’s too late for him to get the large merit from Alabama.
That said, Bama enrolled over 900 freshman this fall with the big free tuition merit award, so …
What is your major?
You could apply to UAB and UAH…they’re still giving large merit.
The problem is this…you’re not going to find private scholarships now to help you pay for 4 years of college. Most of these private awards are SMALL and only for ONE YEAR.
What is your strategy for paying for FOUR years of college.
You need to be careful and NOT misstep. If you start at an unaffordable school, and then have to leave, you’re not going to get that big aid as a TRANSFER. You need to get it as an incoming frosh.
Tell us what’s going on and we’ll help you.
Why not?
Unless you are literally going to live at home, there is almost no advantage to staying in state. As @mom2collegekids says, University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) and Birmingham (UAB) are among the few excellent options at this point. At UAH, you would get a full tuition scholarship. Hard to beat that.

@Oklahoma18 Just realized you’re a senior. It’s very late in the game to be college hunting now. Didn’t your GC tell you that you had to get the ball rolling back in December and January? At this point, go to the school that has rolling admissions or a late February/March/later deadline. I wouldn’t knock you down to community college level just because you want to stay instate and waited till now; your 31 proves you’re capable of more than that. Costs are a huge issue. Go where you’re given the most money for your merit.
I think you should recheck OU. Call, email or go to the financial aid office. My son was offered a full-ride, but we are from California and he didn’t want to leave our state. It doesn’t hurt to ask.
