32 act?

Speaking strictly from a testing standpoint, where does a 32 ACT put me? Is it enough for the Ivies? HPY? Or is it simply too low? My SAT is a 2060, so I figured I would submit the ACT with subject tests instead (just took them, probably Math II 700 and Literature 740). Consider that all other factors are in the 50% range of other applicants.

Also, my lowest ACT score was a 28 in math, but I also got a 36 in reading. So I'm not too sure where I stand right now.

I don’t want to discourage from applying to any of the ivies with a 32 ACT score but, given your other stats parameters, it probably puts you somewhere near the lower half to the bottom quartile of the applicant pool for an unhooked applicant. There are certainly other components to the application that can “make up some of the ground” such as essays, recs, EC’s, awards, and leadership, that can make you as competitive as someone with higher ACT and/or SAT I and II test scores.

Speaking of hooks, I was wondering if I qualified for first generation. My dad dropped out of high school (has GED) and my mom only attended one year of college (University of Staten Island) before dropping out to work on Wall Street (Our family income is now ~20k). When I’m completing the college app, should I mention that I am first generation? Will it help?

You would be in the running if everything else is stellar, but the unfortunate truth is most unhooked kids with a 32 will not get into an ivy.
