33 Composite Retake?

I took the June ACT and did fairly well for not having studied at all.

1st sitting:

Comp: 33
English: 34
Reading: 34
Math: 33
Science: 30

I am planning on majoring in physics/astrophysics track at a top university (Johns Hopkins, Wash U, maybe Yale or Brown) is the 30 going to hurt my chances as applying as a science major? Retake?

Honestly, the science is just a specialized reading section. Most school’s just look at yoru composite anyways.

If you did that with no studying, definitely study this time and your scores should go up a bit :)

A 33 is on the high end of all the colleges you listed. I feel that people may take the science section with a grain of salt (although I don’t know for sure). If you have good SAT II you should be fine. However, a higher score never hurts no matter what the case is.

I don’t think 33 is on the high end for Yale?

If you think that you could easily increase that score with just a little prep, I’d say go for it. There’s not harm in taking it the second time if you’re sure you’ll score higher.

I would say retake.

Your composite is very good, but in the ivy league, every advantage counts. You will probably improve the second time you take it, and as you have only taken it once so far, you have no reason not to try a second time.

My SAT II scores were alright… not great. I won’t need them if I am sending in my ACT anyways though, right?

I retook a 33 to get a 35. I think it does make a difference.

It differs from school to school. For example, Williams requires both the ACT and the SAT Subject Tests.
