Here's my situation. Any help is appreciated.

Duke's middle 50% for the ACT is 29-34. Basically i breezed through high school in the top 5 in my class while not really caring or thinking about college. I managed a 2050 (1290 M+CR) on the SAT in my junior year. Over the summer, reality hit me and I realized what it takes to go to a top school like Duke. I registered for the September ACT as well as the October ACT, thinking that taking it twice would maximize my score and allow me to not send in SAT Subj Tests as I was pressed for time.

So I suprisingly got a 33 on my September test. I am already registered to take the October test but would have to submit it blind (without seeing score first) as the ED Deadline for Duke is November 1st. Should i take it? Submit Blind? Thanks!

Are you sure you want to apply ED ? (without more info, I'm sure few will offer an opinion, but it could be your competitive for RD.) If not, there is time to wait and think.

I'm 100% sure I want to go to Duke. Its my dream school and I need to aplpy ED as that will give me a better shot at Duke. So do you think the 33 is ok or I should take the test blind in October and submit my score without seeing my grade, in addition to the 33. By the way you can find "more info" about my stats here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/duke-university/571384-ed-chances-final-chance-thread-before-submitting.html

Thanks!

since you're applying to one school- Duke- early decision then you could always ask the ACT to send in both scores from both test dates just to be safe.

A 33 is fine, but higher is ALWAYS better. You could either send it blind and assume they do what they say: only look at the highest score. Or, send the first score and view the second one at home first. If 34+, you could print off the score report and fax it in or send by fedex with a note 'Official Score report to follow."

i heard that Duke superscores.. so even if you do worse overall, you may do better on some subjects, giving you a 34 possibly
