Hey guys. I got a 34 Composite (33/32/34/35) and an 8/12 on the writing section on the April ACT.

However, I got a 32 Composite (32/35/29/31) and a 10/12 on the writing section on March ACT (school required ACT).

Should I submit both scores just to show my better writing score? I did get a 10/12 on the first ACT i have took. I got an even better composite the next time around, but my writing portion was two points worse.

I'm submitting them to UPenn and the University of Michigan.

Both your ACT scores are good so why not send both in order to show your higher essay score. Besides, maybe the colleges will take notice of the 35 on your March sub section. Do either of these school “super score” the ACT?

I’m in a similar situation. I have a 31 with 8 writing and a 33 with no writing, so if I submit both to schools that require writing will they accept the 33?

So even though I have a writing score, they won’t take my 33 but instead take the one with a probable bubbling error?(Reading went 31->23) Feels like I’m getting ripped off.

@Welcome: I’m in the same situation. I called the admissions offices of the colleges on my list, and all the ones that require the ACT with writing will look at the composite score from an ACT without writing. As long as I send both of my scores, they will look at the writing score and composite scores separately. I asked a college counselor about it, and this seems to be the case with most colleges that require the writing test.

Basically, call the admissions offices and ask them yourself. I hope it works out for you.

@OP: I think it will be fine. I too have a 34.25 composite with a 9 writing score. I think most colleges don’t put much weight on the writing score. It seems like it’s usually just used as a reference to make sure that you can actually write decently on your own and didn’t have someone write your admissions essay for you.

^Surprisingly enough, I got my writing score the day the scores were released online. I guess I just got lucky. There were even a few people that received their ACT scores (with writing) in the mail days before the online release date.

It seems like there’s no real way to predict when the writing scores will be ready. You’ll just have to wait it out.
