34 Composite Score, 1st time, 36 on Math, 35 on English. Should I retake?

I got 34 on my ACT when I took it in April. Below is the breakdown:
Math: 36 (yay!)
English: 35
Reading:34
Science:31
Essay: 9
English with writing:32

I'm very happy with my scores on Math, English, and Reading. But 31 on Science and 9 on the essay...do colleges care that much about the science and essay section?
I feel like if I take it again I may not get a 36 on Math, also I think that 34 is pretty reasonable. I plan to apply to Princeton, Yale, MIT, Tufts, Wesleyan, Amherst, and my state school (lol) should i retake???

Honestly they mostly look at your composite, the math score, and the english score. For you that is 34, 36, and 35 respectively. You should be in good shape for the schools; however, if you really feel that you can do better and you want to give it a shot, study and take it again. It can’t hurt because if you do worse, you can just send your first score and not the second.
Hope this helped!

That’s amazing. Great job ^_^. 34 is a great score in my opinion. But if you want to go that extra mile, go for it!

Congrats those are magnificent score but is it only on the SAT that you can combine scores or can you do it on the ACT also.??? If you can I suggest you take it again and sim for a better score in the areas where you got a lower score, remember, universities are looking forces competitiveness :)

^^ Most schools do not super score for ACT. Google for the short list of schools that do so and see if your target schools are on it.

^ This has a lot of good info on if schools super score or not. http://prepmatters.com/sites/default/files/pdf/Top%20Colleges%20-%209-29-11.pdf

^ Your link was for 2011-2012. This is the newer one:

I wasn’t aware they had updated it! Thanks billcsho!

Don’t retake a 34. Spend your time doing something else to help your application.

I wouldn’t recommend a retake, although it may be hard to get into MIT with a 34. i would recommend studying and doing AP exams and subject tests. Seems like you are good with language arts and math, so i say try the Lit Subject test and the Math 2 Subject test.

You are in the middle 50 per cent (or even higher) for all schools that you listed. While a high score does not guarantee admission at the most competitive schools, it does make you a solid candidate, provided that all the other pieces ate in place. I would spend your time pursuing other ways to improve your candidacy.

thanks everyone for your replies!

Please note that the pdf in the links above actually is not accurate. It shows more schools that superscore ACT. For example, Northwestern does not while it said so on the list. I would rather be more conservative and trust this list more:
