I am a junior in high school from China. I just took the December ACT and get a 34 on my composite score. ( English:34, Math:36, Reading:32,Science:34). I only got a 30 on my ELA score as I only got a 9 on my writing, which I am a little bit disappointed. Do you think I should retake it? My friends said it’s unnecessary that considering English is not my first language my score is good enough.
Its good shut up
No, that’s a fantastic score and a great essay, too. Congratulations!
There’s no answer applicable to every student. A 34 is excellent and good enough to get into most American colleges but your particular circumstances may lead to a different answer. A couple of considerations for retaking: are you applying to schools that superscore the ACT? Is this a score that is confirmed on your practice tests, or do you usually do better (either on the composite or some subscore? The bar for international students is set higher, so only you know whether comparable students from your school do better or worse on their standardized tests. My D retook a 34 and got a 35, but she also had a very high SAT score, so the second taking was like a “free” look at a better score. If she did worse, she wouldn’t report her ACT.
