35.25 ACT with 10.25 Writing Score. Retake?

Hey everyone, I was one of the unfortunate ones who got a 35.25 ACT with 10.25 Writing Score. Should I retake to get that perfect 36 and maybe 12 writing score? I’ve only taken the test once.

You’re fine. Sit back and relax.

Work on your extra-curriculars.

Mind sharing the prep materials you found to be a great help?

Sure. I took every official practice test available. The real way is to mark the ones that were wrong and redo those, rather than simply looking at the answers. You should take 2 practice tests every week and in between be reviewing the mistakes you made on all of your exams. Also, I found the ACT Black Book to be helpful in solidifying my intuition skills.

Yes, it’s really unfortunate that you got a 35. Especially because no one cares about the decimal points. And no college is going to care if you didn’t get a 36. Not one. Your writing score is fine. You are done.

My DD took the ACT in Apr 2016 when they still scored writing out of 36. She got a 24 (88th percentile) but her composite was 34 and she had sub-scores E34, M31, R35 and S35. She decided against taking it again and risking a lower composite just to boost the writing, plus a lot of schools said they didn’t factor in the writing portion. She is definitely a strong writer so not sure what happened. Her low-ish writing score didn’t seem to affect her admissions at all. I would not retake it just to improve on your writing score. I think your scores are fine as is. Good luck.

Ditto. You are done. Do not retake. Is English your primary language?
