I got a 35 Composite
-35 English
-34 Math
-36 Reading
-35 Science
(Essay Not Yet Graded)

As opposed to SAT with 2290
-800 M
-770 CR
-720 W

I'm thinking about sending my ACT Scores, but since I'm applying to mostly engineering colleges, would they (eg Caltech) prefer to see my 800 M score instead? Do any colleges look at both?

Yeah, that’s the only thing holding me back from sending my ACT Scores…I might end up sending SAT to colleges that place a great emphasis on Math (eg Caltech) and sending my ACT to more general universities.

Yeah I can see what you’re saying… If it’s really concerning you that much, just don’t send ACT to MIT and caltech. those are the only two places I can think of that MIGHT think a 34 math and 35 science weren’t good enough.

Thanks for the input. I actually just realized that Caltech and MIT superscore the SAT so I’ll be sending that in (770 CR, 800 M, 770 W = 2340 Superscore Composite). For colleges that don’t superscore, I’ll send the ACT.

Maybe you should look at the SAT/ACT conversion chart posted by act.org and collegeboard.com . Keep in mind that most colleges, particularly engineering schools, don’t care for the writing score.

My S2 has a similar situation due to writing scores:

SAT A: 740 CR, 800 M, 740 W (8 essay)
SAT B: 740 CR , 700 M, 800 W (had a bad math day)(11 essay)

ACT: 36 M, 36 R, 36 E, 34 S (-1), Comp 36, essay 9 (33 combined E/W)

Question is does he just send the ACT and take the 9 essay with 33 combined E/W score, or also send the SAT’s that include an 800 W score (along with a relatively bad math score?

He just received his June Subject test scores which validate his math :
math 2: 800
bio-m: 780
USH: 780

He’s not chosen a major yet, but is not excluding engineering/ Sci. Thanks for your input.

Basically, he has a SAT superscore of 2340 with an 11 essay. And he has an ACT 36 with 9 essay. From what I’ve heard, colleges don’t place too much emphasis on the essay (they use it to verify your app essay to check for discrepancies), so I’d definitely send the perfect ACT score.

Send them both. They are both strong, neither is anything to be embarrassed about. And some schools might prefer one or other, because of how they handle super-scoring, or consider 800’s in a single section, etc.
