36 ACT, 800 SAT2s, Good EC, but only top 15% of class...is it possible?

How much could my rank/transcript hurt me in admissions. It appears everyone on CC is #1-10 and getting into these good colleges. I really shouldn't have come here.

How about for ED w/ FA?

Would I receive financial aid with parents earning 100k+ combined?

Yes, you may receive finaid with a high income bracket—speaking from personal experience.

Hopkins reviews students holistically. If one part of your application is not up to part, the others may be able to make up for it. There’s no knowing without applying.

As for applying ED—If Hopkins is your top choice school and you are willing to sacrifice a better offer from another institution, go for it. But if you’re worried about FA, I would not suggest doing that.

Don’t worry, I don’t understand why people ask for chances when they are like top 1 in the class (it puzzles me). But you shouldn’t worry about it. If you go to a really good school and you rank top 15%, that really good (I’m not sure but I think that students from the top college prep schools that are in the top 20% can literally be 1st in other schools). Also don’t be worried about a small thing like class rank. Class rank really tells little about a person, it just shows where a person is compared to other. Be proud of your test scores and ECs. If you have a rigorous course load and you do well, then it will make up for the class rank.

Hopkins looks at students the same with FinAid in ED or RD meaning you’ll get the same package from JHU. Apply RD everywhere if you want to compare costs but JHU will cost you the same either way.

GL

I was in the top 15% with a 35 ACT, 750 & 740 SAT II, All-State Chorus, Lead in the Musical, President of various music and theater stuffs along with Editor of Literary Magazine. I got into Hopkins, Bowdoin, U Chicago, Wesleyan, Kenyon, & Michigan. I’m going to Hopkins in the fall.

I think the Ivy Leagues + MIT and Stanford (maybe Amherst/Williams/Swarthmore) are the only schools where you will be really really hurt by not being in the first decile. Otherwise, if everything else is exemplary, as stated before, the school will review you holistically. I think you should be fine for Hopkins! =)
